Site of the British Consulate
On June 26, 1858, during the second Opium War, the Qing government was forced to sign the Sino British Treaty of Tianjin with Britain, and Zhenjiang became a trading port. In 1864, Britain began to build consulates on Mount Yuntai.
The former site of the British Consulate in Zhenjiang is located on the 53rd slope of xijindu ancient street in Zhenjiang city. The museum was announced as a provincial cultural relic protection unit by Jiangsu Provincial People's Government in 1982, and is now the site of Zhenjiang Museum.

In 1864, the British began to build consulates on Yuntai mountain. In early 1888, the Chinese were arrested and killed in Zhenjiang, and the people burned the consulates and patrol houses in anger. The Qing government humiliated the aggressors. It was rebuilt in 1889 and completed in 1890. The existing site is the building rebuilt at that time. The Museum covers an area of 17 mu, 6 Fen, 1.2 mm, and has five houses, all of which are of brick and wood structure. The highest one is the office building, the northwest one (partial second floor) is the staff dormitory and three stables, and the two square buildings on the hillside are the main and Deputy Consul houses. The two-story building in the southern foot of Shandong Province is a dormitory, restaurant and entertainment place. A brick wall and a large iron gate were built around the mountain. On the north side of the river is a three story rectangular building for the Ministry of industry and the patrol house.
