Young women's Christian Association
Young women's Christian Association, a Protestant social activity organization. Founded in London in 1844. At the beginning of its establishment, it was mainly for organizing young women to participate in religious activities, providing accommodation for self-supporting professional women and relieving poverty. Later, it gradually became a social institution to cultivate women's morality and conduct a wide range of activities. It was introduced into China in the late 19th century. It has a history of more than 100 years in China. It is an international organization and a Christian social service group.
Institutional development
In 1890, the young women's Christian Association was introduced into China from the United States. In 1908, the National Committee of the Chinese young women's Christian Association was established. In 1911, the sports association was set up to encourage women to participate in sports activities and go to the society. In 1915, the P.E. normal school was founded, which is the first school in China specialized in training female P.E. talents. In 1923, the National Association of Chinese young women's Christian Association was born in Shanghai. In 1930, a night school for female workers was set up to train a large number of female workers. When the all China Women's Federation was founded in 1949, the YWCA was one of the three major start-ups. In the same year, when the all China Youth Federation was founded, she was a member of four organizations.
Host the event
Over the past 100 years, the young women's Association has experienced social changes in China, rooted in young women of different ages, nationalities and beliefs, concerned about the interests and needs of women in various periods, provided services for them, helped them improve their own quality and adaptability, stimulated their sense of social responsibility, and encouraged them to participate in social affairs. Similarly, in every important historical period of the last century, such as the war of resistance against Japan and national salvation, the war of liberation and the "three self" patriotic movement of Chinese Christianity, the patriotic action of the young women's Association has had outstanding performance. There are 10 urban women's youth associations in China, and the National Association mainly plays the role of guidance, coordination and service.
The mission of the YWCA is to "understand the truth and interpret the truth". Its purpose is to promote the development of women's moral, intellectual and physical education, cultivate noble and sound personality and the spirit of fellowship, serve the society and benefit the people, and actively participate in the construction of China's socialist spiritual and material civilization, so as to contribute to world peace and human development.
The Chinese mainland has resumed the activities of the YMCA in 10 cities, namely Beijing City, Tianjin, Nanjing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Xi'an, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Xiamen.
