Monument to the Northern Expedition
Located in Jishen Park, Changzhou Island, Guangzhou City, the memorial to the northern expedition was built in 1929 by he Sui, acting Dean of the military academy, to commemorate the achievements of "Huangpu Military Academy students born in the Northern Expedition" memorial.
In Pinggang of Changzhou town, a granite monument stands in the shade of green pines and cypresses. There are 22 characters engraved on the monument: "the memorial to the Military Academy of the National Revolutionary Army, where the students came from and died in the Northern Expedition". On the east side of the monument is engraved "sacrifice for the country", on the west side is engraved "sacrifice to save the country", and on the four sides of the pedestal are engraved the names of more than 350 students of Huangpu Military Academy, such as Cao Yuan, Fang Zhifang and Zhao Rongzhong, who died in the northern expedition.
According to the inscription, "the stone of Pinggang is toothed and the water of Huangpu is murmuring; the towering monument will last forever, and will last forever." The monument is made of brick and stone, with a height of 7.49 meters. The body of the monument can be divided into three levels from bottom to top: the first level is the pedestal, with a side length of 3.7 meters and a height of 0.87 meters; the second level is a square column, with a side length of 2.4 meters and a height of 1.82 meters,
Engraved with inscriptions, the south side is the inscription written by he Sui, acting president of Huangpu Military Academy, and the other three sides are engraved with the list of 353 martyrs, written by Huang Jiaqian. The third level main shuttle platform is 2.05 meters long at the bottom, 0.75 meters long at the top, 4.5 meters high, and 0.3 meters high at the top. The inscriptions engraved in the south, north, East and West are respectively "memorial to the Military Academy of the National Revolutionary Army, where students came from and died during the Northern Expedition", "honoring the founding of the Republic of China in February 18", "sacrificing their lives to save the country" and "sacrificing for the people". During the "Cultural Revolution", all the characters of the monument were filled with cement.
It was restored in April 1984 and added in November 1988 for visiting.
