Profile of commemorative figures
Zhang Minda (1885 ~ 1925) was born in Meixian, Guangdong Province. In his youth, he worked as an interpreter in the courtroom of jijiangpo and other ports. Although he lived abroad, he felt deeply about the corruption in the late Qing Dynasty and lived well without forgetting the hardship of his compatriots. He is fond of forest hunting. He has developed great courage and skills and is always ready to serve his motherland. Before the revolution of 1911, he met Dr. Sun Yat Sen, who was propagating the revolution in Nanyang, and participated in the alliance. From then on, under the banner of Dr. Sun Yat Sen's national democratic revolution, he devoted himself to revolution. Later, he was appointed by Sun Yat Sen to contact the overseas Chinese in Nanyang. In 1917, during the law protection movement, Zhang Minda returned to serve his country. In 1918, Xu Chongzhi served as the commander of the battalion, regiment and brigade of the Guangdong army. In 1924, he was promoted to the commander of the second division of the Guangdong army. He moved to Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi and Fujian. He fought dozens of times over the years, invincible. He took the lead in the war and usually helped his subordinates who were in trouble. He often said, "the key of our revolutionary army is to relieve the sufferings of the people. If we disturb the people, we will replace violence with violence." He led the troops to the place where the chickens and dogs were not frightened, so he would unite with the people and win many battles.
In 1925, when Zhang Minda was the commander-in-chief of the right wing of the eastern expeditionary army and garrisoned Jiaoling, the Yunnan and Guangxi armies bullied the businessmen in Guangzhou, did all kinds of evil, ignored the Grand Marshal's office and plotted a rebellion. In April, Zhang Minda was summoned to Shantou to discuss the plan of returning to Guangzhou. He was saddened by the death of Dr. Sun Yat Sen and the rampant warlords. He was so anxious that he wanted to rush to Shantou immediately. It was raining heavily for several days, the Hanjiang river rose sharply, and the railway was submerged again. Xu Chongzhi advised him to go back to the water. His aides and guards also said that it was dangerous to take a boat. But he said, "I've given my life to my country. Are you still afraid of death?" he also said, "I'm an overseas Chinese. I know the nature of water." But when he boarded the boat, he found the iron rope of Xiangzi bridge in Chaozhou and the whole boat was destroyed. A generation of heroes raced away with the passing water. On April 5, 1925, he was only 40 years old. In 1926, the remains were found in Hanjiang and transported back to Guangzhou for burial. In 1953, the Central People's Government awarded him the title of revolutionary martyr.
