National Taiwan University (NTU), founded in 1928, is a research-oriented public comprehensive university in Taiwan, China. It is known as "Taiwan's first university". It is also a university with high academic reputation in the world. Its predecessor was Imperial University of Taipei, which was established during the period of Japanese colonial rule. It was one of the nine imperial universities established in Japan at that time. In 1945, after the restoration of Taiwan, it was renamed "Taiwan University". In 1949, the national government moved to Taiwan, and the National Taiwan University replaced the Central University, which had not yet returned to Taiwan at that time, and became the first university funded by the education authorities in Taiwan.

Taipei Imperial University
In 1922, Japanese governor Kenji Lang planned to set up a university in Taipei.
In 1925, the Governor General of the Japanese government in Taiwan, Yoshino Isawa, officially listed the "preparation fee for the establishment of Imperial University".
In February 1928, Yiyi Tanaka, the Prime Minister of the cabinet, proposed the establishment of Imperial University of Taipei to the cabinet. On March 16, the case was decided by the Japanese government and implemented on March 17 in accordance with the Imperial University order. It was one of the nine imperial universities established in Japan at that time. Yuan Tan, a doctor of humanities, was appointed as the first director of the University. The university is located in the Taipei higher agricultural and forestry school, which is the current site of the University. At the beginning, the Department of culture and politics, the Department of science and agriculture, and the special department of agriculture and forestry affiliated to the University of agriculture and forestry were established. On April 30, the first freshmen took the oath.
On March 25, 1931, the first and the third joint graduation ceremony of the University and its affiliated agricultural and forestry colleges was held. There were 46 graduates (14 in the Department of culture and politics and 32 in the Department of science and agriculture). There are only five graduates from Taiwan: Ke Shikai (History), Zhong Dejun (Politics), Xu Qingzhong (Agronomy), Liu Xingwen (Agronomy) and CAI Yuze (Agronomy).
On December 26, 1935, it was announced that a medical department would be set up, with the director general and Minister of the Department temporarily.
On April 1, 1936, the Taipei Medical School was transformed into a special medical department affiliated to the Department of medicine of Taipei Imperial University. On May 17, in view of the fact that the comprehensive university system has taken on a certain scale, director general yuan Yuantan presided over the official opening ceremony.
On July 21, 1937, it was transferred to huaicong County of Taichung prefecture to set up a mountain farm. In November, the former director general, yuan Yuantan, donated 570 Ping of his shamaoshan residence in Beitou and Zhoudi to the school.

On April 1, 1941, the foundation of Taipei Imperial College was set up under the rock of Shilin Zhishan. On April 26, chief minister mitada resigned and Dr. Ando was appointed as the third chief minister.
On March 15, 1943, it announced the establishment of "Southern Institute of Humanities" and "Southern Institute of resources science". On the 31st, the Ministry of science and agriculture was announced as the Ministry of science and the Ministry of agriculture. On April 1, the affiliated special department of agriculture and forestry became an independent Taichung Agricultural and Forestry College, still using the classroom of Taipei Imperial University to teach. On May 28, the regulations of the Ministry of engineering were published and the Ministry of engineering was formally established. On October 1, all of Taichung's higher agricultural and forestry schools were transferred to Taichung.
On March 29, 1945, the plant disease classroom of the Ministry of agriculture was bombed by the Allied forces, and all departments of the school evacuated to Xizhi, Sanxia, Beitou, Yangmingshan in the suburbs of Taipei, and Tianzhong and Beidou in the middle.
National Taiwan University
On August 15, 1945, Japan surrendered and the war ended. On November 15, Luo zongluo, chairman of the Taiwan education and Rehabilitation Advisory Committee appointed by the national government, and Ichio Ando, former director general of Taipei Imperial University, completed the acceptance of the University. The University was transformed into a "Taiwan University" with six faculties: arts, science, law, medicine, engineering and agriculture. Luo zongluo was the first president of NTU.
In 1946, the medical college set up a specialized medical department.
In January 1947, Taiwan provincial law business school was accepted and merged into law school.
In March 1949, a special class for first-year students was set up to take in the returned students from the province and the young people who came to Taiwan from the mainland.
In 1950, the Affiliated Hospital of the medical college was renamed as the Affiliated Hospital, and the specialized medical department was closed. In July, the exercise forest of the agricultural college was renamed experimental forest, and the management office was set up in Zhushan Town, Nantou County. The Institute of agriculture and the central water conservancy experimental Office of the Ministry of economic affairs jointly set up the hydraulic laboratory, which is the beginning of the cooperation between the school and the institutions outside the school. On December 20, President Fu Sinian passed away, and Shen gangbo, Dean of the College of Arts, took the post of president.
In March 1951, the Institute of tropical medicine was reorganized into the Institute of public health. Part of the original serum vaccine manufactured by the Institute was merged with the relevant units of the health department of Taiwan Province and renamed "Taiwan serum vaccine manufacturing Institute", which was jointly run by the school and the Taiwan provincial government.
In 1952, Taiwan's education authorities began to distribute students to schools. Agricultural college set up livestock hospital.
In 1953, senior nursing vocational school of medical college was renamed "senior nursing vocational school".
In August 1954, the University participated in the joint enrollment of colleges and universities. Military training began this year.
In October 1955, night tutorial classes were opened for adults.
In 1956, the medical college and the Taiwan Provincial Government jointly established the "Taipei Children's mental health center", and the Agricultural College signed a three-year cooperation contract with the Taiwan sugar company.
In 1957, the senior nursing vocational school of Medical College stopped enrolling students. In September, the "agricultural experimental farm" of the agricultural college was reorganized and renamed "agricultural experimental farm".
In September 1958, the affiliated hospital began to provide medical services for the central public education personnel insurance.
In 1959, an overseas Chinese pre training class was set up. Since July, the school of medicine, the health department of Taiwan Provincial Government and the Taipei municipal government have jointly established the "Taipei Public Health Teaching Demonstration Center". The Institute, together with the aerial survey team of the agriculture and Forestry Department of the Taiwan Provincial Government and the Chinese photogrammetric society, has established the "aerial survey center". The affiliated hospital will be responsible for the medical treatment of diseases covered by provincial public education personnel insurance from July 1.
In 1960, the night department was set up on a trial basis, with four departments of foreign language, law, business and agricultural promotion.
