Nankai University Museum evolved from the original museum's professional exhibition room, with an exhibition area of more than 500 square meters. The Department of cultural relics and Museology of the school of history of Nankai University is an extension of the museology major of the former Department of history. The major of Museology was founded in 1980, which was the earliest in the national colleges and universities. In the 1980s, facing the new situation of reform and opening up, Nankai University gradually established a series of applied arts majors. In order to meet the needs of the rapid development of cultural and Museum undertakings for talents, the Department of history has set up a teaching and research section of Museology, which began to recruit undergraduates in the year of its establishment, master's degree students in 1984 and doctor's degree students in 1998. In 2001, the Department of cultural relics and Museology was officially established, with three teaching and research sections of Museology, cultural relics and archaeology, and art history, as well as the research center of Chinese Museology. It also has a cultural relics Herbarium, a cultural museum laboratory, and a museum of Nankai University. The Department of cultural relics and Museology can recruit undergraduate students majoring in cultural relics and Museology, master students majoring in Museology, material and cultural history, ancient characters and ancient utensils, and doctoral students majoring in ancient characters and ancient utensils, archaeological relics and Museology, and Chinese painting and calligraphy and art history.
At the beginning of the establishment of the major, some personnel were transferred from the History Department of Nankai University at that time and the national cultural relic system to form a basic teaching team, including experts who have been engaged in the practical work of Archaeology and cultural relic museums for a long time, as well as senior teachers in the teaching of historical relics. The first director of the professional teaching and Research Office was Mr. Wang Yuzhe, a famous expert in pre Qin history.
In order to strengthen the teaching force, many famous experts and scholars in the cultural and museum system have been employed as part-time professors, such as Fu Zhenlun, Shi Shuqing, Sun Ji, Li Xueqin, Yu Weichao, Li huibing and Xu Pingfang. In addition, more experts and scholars in the cultural relics field have served as teachers of professional courses in Nankai Museum. Nankai Museum has 11 full-time teachers, including 3 doctoral supervisors, 3 professors, 3 associate professors and 4 lecturers. Professor Fan Zeng, a famous artist of calligraphy and painting and scholar of culture and art history, Professor Zhu fenghan, curator of the Museum of Chinese history, and Professor Xu Pingfang, a famous archaeologist and researcher of the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Social Sciences served as the doctoral supervisor of the Department. After years of discipline construction, the teaching staff is gradually strong.
Over the years, the teachers of the Department of cultural relics and museums have made remarkable achievements in the field of cultural and museum research in combination with teaching practice. The teachers of the Department have presided over and participated in a number of national, ministerial and Tianjin social science research projects, and their works and papers have won a number of national, provincial and municipal awards. In terms of the construction of cultural and Museum teaching materials, the material culture of ancient China, compiled by Professor Wang Yuzhe, has been designated as the basic teaching material of Museology by the Ministry of education, and the reference materials for museology research, compiled by teachers of the Department, has long been regarded as the authoritative reference books for the teaching and research of theoretical museology. The Department has an important influence in the study of ancient Chinese material and cultural history, bronze and ancient characters, theoretical museology and comparative study of museums.
The major of museology in Nankai has a long way to go. After nearly 20 years of efforts, it has established a complete teaching system of Museology based on material and cultural history, with museology, cultural relics and archaeology as the main subjects, which provides constructive experience for the curriculum design of brother universities. The Department offers many undergraduate and doctoral courses, covering all aspects of practical work and scientific research in cultural relics, archaeology and Museology.
Over the past 20 years, Nankai Museum has trained hundreds of professional and technical personnel for the cultural and Museum Department, including graduate students, undergraduate students, cultural and Museum college students and advanced students. Many of them have become the backbone of cultural relics administration and archaeological research, and play an important role in China's cultural circles.
With the support of cultural and Museum institutions all over the country, Nankai Museum has gradually established cultural relics collection and exhibition room, specimen room, cultural and Museum laboratory and other infrastructure to improve teaching conditions. After years of efforts and extensive collection, the cultural relics collection and exhibition room now has a total of more than 3000 pieces of national first and second level cultural relics, including some of the original collection of Nankai University, but also donated by people from all walks of life. After the establishment of the specialty, more collections are allocated by teachers of the teaching and research office from cultural and Museum departments all over the country. The quantity and quality of the existing cultural relics are high And categories can basically meet the needs of teaching practice. In 1999-2001, with the support of the 211 Project of the State Education Commission, the original exhibition room of Museology was rearranged, with an exhibition area of 500 square meters. The cultural relics display, preservation, security protection and other conditions were greatly improved. On this basis, the Museum of Nankai University was built, reaching the level of opening to the outside world.
