Historical evolution
Before the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1687), there were Meizi mountain, panjiu mountain and other small islands in the east of the township, commonly known as Meishan; Yandun mountain, Nanhui mountain and other islands in the west of the township, commonly known as Xiaan, which belonged to Dinghai county at that time. Since 1688, it was subordinate to Haiyan Township, Zhenhai County, and was administratively called "three capitals and one map". When the township was established in 1914, it was named Meishan Township because of its village name. From 1953 to 1958, it was called Meishan Township and Meixi township of Zhenhai County; from 1959 to 1961, it was called Guoju people's commune of Zhenhai county (Meidong management area and Meixi management area); from 1962 to 1984, it was called Meishan people's commune; from October 1985, it was called Meishan Township of Binhai District; from July 1987 to now, it is renamed Meishan township of Beilun District. Land formation
The formation of the land area of the island is the result of the continuous increase of the population and the continuous construction of ponds to reclaim tidal flats over the past 400 years. It shows the regional characteristics of "vicissitudes". According to the chronology of land reclamation in zhutangtang, it can be divided into four stages: first, the initial period of the residents (about 1600-1661): the Shen's and Zhang's zhushatang, lishiqiaotang and libaimutang living at the foot of Yandun mountain at that time; the Hong's and Ji's zhumenkoutang living at hongjiashan at that time, with a total land reclamation of about 500 mu. In 1661, the Qing government issued the "sea ban" and the residents moved to the mainland. 2、 Two island period (1685-1829): in the 23rd year of Kangxi (1684), the Qing government issued an edict to "lift the sea ban" and the residents returned to their hometown. At that time, they lived in meizishan, panzhilitang, xuxingtang, Hetang, taigetang, changhoutang, daxingtang, etc.; at that time, people around Yandun mountain and Nanhui mountain successively built tai'ao Tang, Li'ao Litang, waitang, linghoufan Tang, Shiqiao Tang, waiao Tang, yejiatang, danzhichanghoutang, Wangjiatang, Shenshui Tang, longditang, etc., covering more than 6000 mu of reclaimed land. At this time, two small islands, Meishan in the East and Xiaan in the west, separated by sanjiangpu, have been formed. 3、 During the period of the unification of the two islands (1830-1910): in the year of emperor guangrenchen of the Qing Dynasty (1830), the residents of the East and West islands built 800 Mu ponds at the South and North ends of sanjiangpu. After that, zhongjiatang, yongxingtang, fuchengtang, shalitang and Wangjiatang of tea factory were built, covering more than 9800 mu of reclaimed land. During the period of the Republic of China, there were many disasters and wars. By August 1956, during the "anti taiwan disaster relief" period, the land area of Meishan island was 18.2 square kilometers, which was verified by plane survey and field data sent by Ningbo Municipal People's government. 4、 People's commune period (1958-1980): in March 1958, Ningbo Municipal Bureau of industry and Commerce built a 4950 Mu enclosure outside yongxingtang in the south of the island to establish a Ningbo state-owned Meishan salt farm; from 1968 to 1970, Meishan society and Baifeng commune built a 1695 Mu enclosure outside qixingtang in the south of qixingtang to establish a Meixi joint salt farm; stele tower production team built a 430 Mu enclosure outside daxingtang to establish a stele The Meidong salt farm was built by the three production brigades, Meishan, Paotai and Panshi, which were surrounded by a pond of 950 Mu outside the panlitang, and the fresh water storage pond was built by the two production brigades, Panshi and Li'ao, which were surrounded by a pond of 50 mu outside daotouzui and xiadaotou respectively. From 1977 to 1980, Meishan commune built 4050 mu of salt fields in the northwest of Meishi joint salt field. During this period, a total of 12175 mu of farmland was reclaimed. Such a line of seawall gradually moved out, the land area continued to expand, forming today's island area. By 2006, the land area of the island was 26.9 square kilometers.
The natural environment of the island is quiet and beautiful. In summer and autumn, the monsoon blows strongly, and the wind direction is mainly ESE. In winter and spring, the monsoon wind direction is mainly nm. It has sufficient sunshine, abundant rainfall, mild and humid climate, long frost free period, rare ice and snow, and no disastrous weather such as high temperature and low temperature. It has the characteristics of warm in winter and cool in summer, fresh air, green in four seasons, pleasant and suitable for things. It is known as "Green Island". In 2004, it was honored as "ecological township" by Ningbo Municipal People's government.
District Population
Township jurisdiction Meizhong, Meidong, Beita, Meixi, Meigang five administrative villages, a total of 46 natural villages. At the end of 2006, there were 6249 households with 15306 permanent residents and 572 temporary residents.
economic development
Before the establishment of the zone, it was mainly rich in cotton, fish and salt, and the collective economy and farmers' per capita annual income ranked among the top 8 of the 21 townships in Zhenhai county. After the construction of the District, we should take "economic construction as the center", implement the development strategy of "prospering the island by ecology, enriching the people by green", and speed up the pace of economic development. In 2006, the total social output value was 338.27 million yuan, 8.7 times that of 38.5 million yuan in 1984; the per capita annual income of farmers was 6951 yuan, 2.6 times that of 17 square meters in 1984; and the per capita deposit was 4848 yuan. In 2006, the total output value of agriculture was 117.1 million yuan, and half of the rural labor force has turned to the secondary and tertiary industries.
Since the early Qing Dynasty, Meishan township has not only planted grain, oil and vegetables and a variety of cash crops, but also fished and cultivated a variety of marine fish, shellfish, crustaceans, algae and other aquatic products, as well as the traditional industry of salt drying in seawater. As early as 1836, cotton was planted in the island, which was one of the earliest cotton planting areas in Zhenhai county. one
