Introduction to scenic spots
There is a reclining Buddha in the main hall, which is the largest reclining Buddha in the contemporary caves. It complements the largest Buddha in the south of the Yangtze River (stone Maitreya Buddha) 1500 years ago and the open-air Buddha in the holy land of Foshan. It makes people appreciate the exquisite grotto art, at the same time, be influenced by Buddhism, purify their hearts and feel the true meaning of life. Shuanglin Grottoes is a new scenic spot in Dafosi scenic area after Maitreya, Prajna Valley and dinosaur park. This scenic spot used to be a quarry in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Later, it built a plank road, dug a tunnel and built a Buddha according to the mountain. Today's largest cave and the largest reclining Buddha were excavated in the mountain.
The Sleeping Buddha Hall has become another tourist attraction with Buddhist culture as the theme after "the largest Buddha in the south of the Yangtze River", adding luster to the "Yue State Dunhuang" Buddhist temple.
From the left side of 300 meters from the entrance of Dafosi temple, the first thing you can see is the stone tablet of Shuanglin grottoes. Walking through the stone tablet is Mingjing lake. From the left side up, through 200 steps, through the twists and turns of the cave, you will arrive at the front of the hall.
The gate of the hall is divided into seven rooms, majestic and solemn, with single eaves and double overhanging, detailed brackets and appropriate proportion, which is the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty. The left and right cliffs are embossed with a 7-meter-high two generals of hem and ha. They are grand in scale and majestic.
Entering the arch is the front hall, and the two caves on the left and right are Manjusri and Puxian Bodhisattvas. Manjusri is riding a green lion. The green lion represents power. He holds scriptures in his hand. He is the first disciple of the Buddha. He is the first of all Bodhisattvas in wisdom and eloquence. He helps the Buddha to carry forward Buddhism. Thanks to Manjusri, we can get rid of stupidity, seek wisdom and develop wisdom. The white elephant represents peace and power, and the universal sage symbolizes truth. The heads of the green lion and the white elephant are facing outwards, which means to protect the Dharma.
Entering the main hall, you can see a peaceful and holy place. The main hall is also a grotto, 23 meters deep and 48 meters wide. It is carved into a reclining Buddha from the original mountain. Lying on the throne of xumilian, the reclining Buddha is 37 meters long and 9 meters high.
The image of reclining Buddha refers to Dunhuang, Longmen and the Great Buddha in the temple of heaven. From the point of view of hair to facial features, from a garment pattern to the placement of hands and feet, the most authoritative experts and eminent monks in China have made several argumentation and several changes in the draft, and finally decided on this plan.
Shuanglin Grottoes was built in November 2003 with a total investment of more than 30 million yuan. Among them, the great Reclining Buddha is located in the grottoes of xiaosi'ao mountain. The hall in the Grottoes is 23 meters in length from north to South and 48 meters in length horizontally. It is carved into a reclining Buddha (the Buddha's nirvana and auspicious Reclining Buddha) according to the original rock mass of the grottoes. Facing the west, the reclining Buddha has a total length of 37 meters and a height of 9 meters. Through the design of statues and inside and outside of the grottoes, it fully reflects the serenity, tranquility and wisdom of the Buddha when he was in Nirvana in the country where the corpse was being held, along the river of alilobati and under the trees. The scenic spot was opened on December 27, 2006.
Visitors can climb the plank road, pass through the carved grotto hall, and enter into the heart shaking Nirvana world. The Buddha statue is integrated with the natural mountain, and complements the largest Buddha in the south of the Yangtze River more than 1500 years ago (stone Maitreya Buddha) and the open-air Buddha in the natural scenic spot. While appreciating the beauty of nature and the fine arts of ancient and modern times, people can also abandon the distracting thoughts, purify their hearts and realize the true meaning of life.
Grotto Guide
Now that we are at the entrance of the scenic spot, the first thing we see is Mingjing lake. The word Mingjing reminds us of a classic story in Buddhism: when Hongren, the fifth patriarch of Zen, passed on his mantle, he asked all his disciples to chant. Shenxiu said, "the body is a Bodhi tree, and the heart is like a mirror platform. Wipe it frequently, so as not to cause dust." Huineng retorted, "Bodhi is not a tree, and Mingjing is not a platform If there is nothing to come, where can the dust come from. Hongren passed the mantle to Huineng. There are two meanings in building this Mingjing Lake: one is to warn Buddhist disciples to be like a Mingjing and forget themselves. Through self-examination, they can find the dust and filth in their hearts and wipe them away from time to time; the other is to make the best use of the situation to store water to form a Lake and comply with the requirements of geomantic omen.
From the left side up the stairs, walk 200 steps to the front of the hall. Standing in front of the hall and looking to the west, you can see a wide field of vision, roads, trees, flowers and trees, which is very pleasing. Mingjing lake is clear and exquisite, with steep cliffs on both sides. Behind it is the rolling South rock mountain. The Buddha Hall is slightly concave inward, and the terrain is just in line with the requirements of geomantic omen that "there is a picture in the front, a back, a green dragon on the left and a white tiger on the right". The gate of the hall is divided into seven rooms, majestic and solemn, with single eaves and double overhanging, delicate brackets and appropriate proportion, which is an imitation of the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty. The name of the scenic spot is Shuanglin grottoes. Shuanglin refers to the saposha trees growing in pairs. During Sakyamuni's nirvana, the saposha trees around him were both in one, and the scene was moving. "Shuanglin Grottoes" points out the theme of this scenic spot.
The left and right cliffs are embossed with a 7-meter-high second general of hem ha. He is grand in scale and majestic. He is the two door gods guarding the temple and acts as a deterrent. Seeing them, they feel the solemnity of Buddhism and dare not make mistakes. You can tell which is hum and which is ha by their mouth shape. Hum general's name is Zheng Lun. He was taught by a real person. When he snorts, his nose sounds like thunder and emits two white lights, which can attract people's soul. Ha general's name is Chen Qi. He is also told in secret that when he opens his mouth, he emits yellow gas, and the people he sees are terrified.
Enter the arch is the front hall, the proposed thousand Buddha Hall. The left and right caves are Manjusri and Puxian Bodhisattvas.
When you enter the main hall, you can see peace. The main hall is also a grotto, 23 meters deep and 48 meters wide. It is carved into a reclining Buddha from the original mountain. We can see the reclining Buddha lying quietly on the lotus throne of Xumi. The statue is 37 meters long and 9 meters high. The 37 meters contains the "thirty-seven helping Daoism" of Mahayana Buddhism and Hinayana Buddhism. This Reclining Buddha is the largest reclining Buddha in the contemporary cave. Its image refers to Dunhuang, Longmen and the Great Buddha in the temple of heaven. From the point of view of hair to facial features, from a garment pattern to the placement of hands and feet, the most authoritative experts and eminent monks in China have made several arguments and several drafts, and finally decided on this plan. The Buddha has a full face, drooping eyelids and serene expression. His right hand is on his head, and his left hand is naturally on his side, reaching a state of neither joy nor sorrow, neither life nor death. The lines of the clothes are smooth, connected up and down, and naturally interspersed. The sleeping position and orientation are exactly the same as those recorded in Buddhist scriptures. There is a beam of Buddha light above the head, which makes the head outline of the Buddha more clear. There are ten thousand characters on the chest, flashing colorful light under the light, indicating good luck and virtue. A thousand spoke wheel is carved on the sole of the foot, which indicates that the wheel of Dharma is always turning and the Dharma is boundless. The whole body is spread in warm colors, warm and soft. There is a caisson on the top of the Buddha Hall, with light color, five colors of auspicious clouds and lotus in it, indicating the holiness and auspiciousness of Buddhism. There are also dances around, which indicate the beauty and harmony of the paradise and arouse people's pursuit of a better life. The Buddha statues and frescoes in the hall are carved according to the mountain. They make use of the delicate, simple and easy to carve features of volcanic tuff stone, and express the scene of Buddha's nirvana with round carving and relief. The reclining Buddha and the largest Buddha in the south of the Yangtze River (stone Maitreya statue) 1500 years ago and the open-air Buddha in the holy land of Foshan complement each other, so that people can enjoy the exquisite grotto art, at the same time, be influenced by Buddhism, purify their hearts and feel the true meaning of life.
So, what was the scene of Buddha's nirvana? Buddha's life view is to save all living beings. When he was 80 years old, his physical strength was exhausted. Knowing that he would soon die, he led his disciples to leave the South Bank of the Ganges River and go north to return to his hometown. One day, when he walked to the Suoluo forest outside the city of jushinaka, Ananda, a disciple of Buddha, put a bed between the two Suoluo trees. Sakyamuni faced West, head north, feet south, right rib close to the mat, and lay on his side. After listening to the teachings of Sakyamuni, Ananda trembled, choked and fell into a coma. It is said in the Sutra of the great Nirvana: there are four pairs of eight branches of saposha trees around Sakyamuni's treasure bed, two on the left and two on the right. After Sakyamuni made his will to his disciples, midnight was silent and he entered nirvana. After nirvana, the two pairs of saposha trees around the treasure bed, East and West, and North and south, became one tree. The branches of the tree were covered with white flowers, like a treasure cover on the seven treasure bed where the Buddha was sleeping. At this time, the other trees in the forest turned white, like a white crane. The branches, flowers and fruits wither gradually, leaving nothing. The earth vibrated, the rivers dried up, the sky was dark, the wind howled and the dust flew. This day is February 15, 486 BC.
At that time, countless monks and laymen heard that after the Buddha's nirvana, some choked with tears, some fell to the ground in a coma, some followed the Buddha into extinction, some went crazy, lost the Buddha's heart, and some beat their chests
