Historical evolution

In March 2004, Hainan University and Hainan luobidong Investment Co., Ltd. signed an agreement to jointly prepare for the establishment of Sanya College of Hainan University.

In April 2005, Sanya College of Hainan University was established, and in the same year, it was listed as the government accountability project.

In 2007, the experimental teaching demonstration center of computer application foundation was awarded as excellent laboratory by Hainan Provincial Department of education.

In 2009, the electronic technology experiment and practice teaching center of Sanya University, the economic management experiment and practice teaching center of Sanya University, and the experimental teaching demonstration center of computer application foundation were rated as "Hainan electronic technology experiment and teaching demonstration center".

In 2010, the Institute of Oceanography of Sanya University was established; in January of the same year, the school canceled the establishment of the economic and Management Branch, and established the financial and economic branch by the three undergraduate majors of international economy and trade, accounting and financial management, and the management branch by the other four majors

.

In November 2011, Hainan Island Culture and social development research base was established.

In March 2012, Sanya College of Hainan University was transformed into Sanya college.

In July 2013, the school's paperless animation laboratory, 3G mobile communication innovation experiment center, broadcasting and hosting art laboratory were approved as the Key Laboratory of Sanya City; in August of the same year, the Institute of Marxist political philosophy was established

In January 2014, the school of international tourism was officially renamed International Hotel Management School; in the same year, the school passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of education.

In April 2016, the people's Government of Hainan Province and the people's Government of Sanya City officially signed a contract to jointly build Sanya University;

In August of the same year, the research and development base of Li culture was officially opened.

In October 2018, the "International Design Institute" and "innovative design institute" jointly built by Sanya University and the school of design of Shanghai Jiaotong University were inaugurated in Sanya University.

As of December 2019, the school has 1157 full-time teachers and 70 external teachers. Among them, there are 1022 teachers with doctor's and master's degrees, accounting for 83.29%; 414 teachers with senior professional titles, accounting for 33.74%; young teachers under 35 years old, accounting for 41.81%; and 202 double qualified teachers, accounting for 17.46% of the total number of full-time teachers.

In the 2017-2018 academic year, teachers won 139 awards, an increase of 136%; students won 729 awards, an increase of 30%, including 62 national awards and 116 provincial awards.

 

In 2019, the number of school students participating in the Fifth China's "Internet plus" College Students' innovation and entrepreneurship competition reached 1722, an increase of 50% over the same period, 355 entries, an increase of 41% over the previous year, 54 national projects, an increase of 35% over the previous year, and 126 provincial projects, an increase of 40% over the previous year.

Journal of Sanya university is a comprehensive academic journal under the charge of Hainan Provincial Department of education and sponsored by Sanya University.
