brief introduction
Xixin temple was built in the late Ming Dynasty, flourished in the Qing Dynasty, destroyed in the late Qing Dynasty. The temple has a profound history, which can be traced back to the early Song Dynasty. It has a history of about 850 years ago, which has put a mysterious veil on this Buddhist temple. It is located in the Sheyang River scenic spot planned by the government, bordering Mingda University in the south, Yueda International Golf Course in the west, yellow sea beach in the East and Sheyang sluice in the north. The temple is well-known in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. The choice of the location of Xixin temple is also related to a legend.
Historical legend
It is said that during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, the abbot of the ancient dragon temple, one of the eight famous ancient sceneries in Yancheng, gave a very good lecture, with thousands of listeners at the beginning of each lecture. One of them, an old man with white beard, came every time he talked about it, rain or shine, and always stood in an eye-catching position. One day, the abbot asked, "uncle, who are you from?" "To tell you the truth, monk, I am not a human being, but a dragon. Because I can't reach home in my cultivation, I often listen to your lectures, hoping to become an immortal as soon as possible under your guidance." "Oh, you're a dragon. Can you show me your real body?" "Yes, but we have to ask the monk to recite a Maha mantra." So the abbot began to recite the "Maha mantra" and read it. As expected, a dragon appeared and grew from small to large. Old abbot, have a look! No, it turned out to be a one Horned Dragon. He thought, if we let it become an immortal, wouldn't it make trouble and endanger the world? Therefore, he secretly changed the "Maha mantra" to "Jiedi mantra". This change is as like as two peas, which is a twin sister of Guanyin, almost the same as Guanyin, and is a special descending to the world. Hearing the call for help, she immediately drove to the sky with auspicious clouds. When she saw an evil dragon, it came down from the clouds and started a dragon fight. After three days and three nights of fighting, the sky was dark and the earth was dark, the sand was flying, and the rain and the wind were mixed. How can the Dragon beat the gods? Seeing that his life was in danger, he fled to the sea through Sheyang River. After the unicorn dragon entered the sea, it often turned into countless pests to destroy grain and cotton, and people from all over the world complained bitterly. In order to prevent the one Horned Dragon from going up the river again and harming the people, the abbot built a "Zhenlong Temple", also known as "grasshopper Temple", about 3.5 kilometers east of Hede Town, where the Xiaoyang River enters the Sheyang estuary.
Xixin temple, formerly known as Xixin temple, was built in the late Ming Dynasty, flourished in the Qing Dynasty and destroyed in the late Qing Dynasty. In the 18th year of the Republic of China, Jiang Yiyuan, Qiu gaijiao and others built Xingbei street again. However, all the Buddha statues were destroyed during the cultural revolution, and some houses were demolished in 1995 due to the reconstruction of the county seat. In 1993, under the guidance of the party's religious policy and with the approval of the relevant government departments, it was planned to rebuild the "Xixin Temple" in the county. At that time, master Mingshan, vice president of China Buddhist Association and President of Jiangsu Buddhist Association, was invited as abbot of the temple. Master Mingshan knew the legend of "Zhenlong Temple" for a long time, so he decided to locate it in the present place.
In 1993, Xixin temple was rebuilt in the south head of Sheyang River sluice. When the foundation was laid, master Mingshan, vice president of China Buddhist Association and President of Jiangsu Buddhist Association, was invited to be the abbot of the temple. In 1994, the first phase of the temple's three holy halls and Zhaitang was completed. Since 1995, with the efforts of monks inside and outside the temple and the support of many social residents, Daxiong hall, Dabei building, Tianwang hall, Buddhist cultural relics exhibition hall, Guanzi garden, Mountain Gate, guest hall, Squatter house, etc. have been built. The nine storey 68 meter high Wanfo pagoda is a landmark building of Xixin temple. You can see the beach scenery from the top of the pagoda. The 2.5-meter-high Jade Buddha is the treasure of the temple. The Xixin temple in the plan will mainly build a Buddhist temple area, a grand view area of Buddhist culture, a guest house area, a landscape park, and four Foshan scenic spots. It is a multi-cultural base integrating Buddhist culture, garden art and human landscape. It is not only a holy land for ten believers to worship Buddhism, but also a good place for Chinese and foreign guests to visit.
