Basic introduction
Sheung Wan Station is the station of MTR Hong Kong Island line. It is under the middle of Des Voeux Road, Sheung Wan, central and Western District of Hong Kong Island. It was started in March 1983 and completed on May 23, 1986. It is an underground station with two side platforms, all of which have platform screen doors. At the time of planning, Sheung Wan Station was called western market station (belonging to Hong Kong Island Line) and Rumsey station (belonging to East Kowloon Line).
Station floor
Station lobby
The station is equipped with two lobbies, which are located at the ground floor of Des Voeux Road Central and Lindsey Street respectively. Each lobbies has only two positions, which are connected to two platforms of the Hong Kong Island line respectively. In addition, the location of the escalators is inconvenient. Therefore, it takes a long time for passengers to travel from the station lobbies to the platforms, and it is more crowded during busy hours, which is criticized by many people.
The hall of Lins street was originally planned to be the hall of Lins station on East Kowloon line. In order to avoid affecting the operation of Sheung Wan Station, the MTR Corporation has reserved the lobby and platform of Sheung Wan Station at the ground floor of Lins street. Lins station also has a station control room, a complete lobby, shops and customer service center, etc., which can operate independently. Due to the shelving of the East Kowloon Line Project, the lobby of Lins station has become the East lobby of Sheung Wan Station.
There are different types of shops in Sheung Wan Station for passengers to shop or eat, such as convenience stores, bakeries and banks. They are mainly distributed in the lobby of Des Voeux Road Central and Rumsey street.
In addition, there are many self-service facilities for passengers at Sheung Wan Station, including ATM, vending machine, etc.
There is also a hongkong post box near entrance B.
station platform
Island Line platform
Sheung Wan Station Island Line platform is two side platforms, all of which are equipped with platform screen doors. The design is different from other stations on the island line. In the eyes of passengers, platforms 1 and 2 look like two unidirectional platforms on different floors, but in fact they are opposite platforms, only the two platforms are completely separated by walls,
It makes it impossible for passengers to know that the two platforms are located on the same floor (but near the end of the two platforms, there is a partition net on the walls of the two rail tunnels, so that passengers can see the trains driving or arriving on the other platform), which is similar to the design of Nanchang Station (West Rail Line), Meifu station (West Rail Line), Tsuen Wan West Station, Kengkou station and Tsing Yi Station. When the MTR trains alight from platform 2 in the south, they will use the driverless train system to enter the U-turn track in the west of the station, and then turn to platform 1 in the north for boarding. The end of the U-turn rail at Sheung Wan Station is at the junction of Des Voeux Road West and Gao Sheng street,
It has been reserved for the West Hong Kong Island Line extension project.
Due to the wrong design of the tunnel plan of Sheung Wan Station in that year, both platforms were about 40 meters longer than normal. Before the installation of platform screen doors, railings were set at the edge of the extra platforms to prevent passengers from waiting there. Later, when the platform screen doors were installed, they were replaced by glass plates.
Reserved platform for East Kowloon Line
The vacant platform on the ground floor of Lynch street is running north-south and at right angles to the platform on the Hong Kong Island line.
The island platform was originally reserved for Linshi station of East Kowloon line. It has been vacant since Sheung Wan Station was put into operation. There are railings at the edge of the platform, and no rails or overhead cables are installed. The former MTR Corporation sealed off both ends of the platform with brick walls, leaving only about 60 meters (about 3 / 8 normal platforms) of the platform position, and set up passageways to connect the Lins Street lobby and the Hong Kong Island Line platform.
The platform now has two one-way passageways, one connecting platform 2 of Sheung Wan Station (drop off platform of Hong Kong Island Line) with Lins Street lobby, and the other connecting platform 1 of Sheung Wan Station (towards Chai Wan direction) with two groups of 4 escalators. If the passenger goes to the passageway connecting Lins Street lobby by mistake, he can use the staircase on the attic of Lins Street lobby to return to platform 2 of Sheung Wan Station (drop off platform of Hong Kong Island Line), and then walk to the central lobby of Des Voeux Road. The platform is now completely closed.
