Shuishui Buddha is located in Shuishui village, Dula Township, Baiyun District, about 16 kilometers away from the center of Guiyang city. It is at the core of Xinghua Park, one of the six major theme parks in Guiyang city.

The Buddha statue was actually built in 2001. The so-called origin with Leshan Giant Buddha is just a misinformation.

Basic introduction

Giant Buddha, which is 4 meters higher than the head of Leshan Giant Buddha, is known as the world's first natural stone Buddha. I feel that the left face of the stone Buddha may be limited by the original mountain shape, and it is not as full as the right face. It has a kind of samurai charm. This may be related to the rough method of carving Buddha statues on the rocks near the mountain. Maybe master Haineng gave this Buddha a special mission when he carved this stone Buddha to prevent floods.

There is a small river in front of the cliff of the Buddha statue. The scenery on both sides of the river is beautiful. There are scattered flowers on the other side of the river. Guizhou is called cockroach flower. It shows its enchantment on the Bank of the stream and river. It is also called Manzhu shahua. It is said that this flower only blooms in the yellow spring. In the Sutra, it is generally believed that it only blooms on the river of the underworld The soul of the flower, this flower leaves when there is no flower, flowers when there is no leaf, like two worlds of life and death, never meet. Buddha statues have been standing between such people and the underworld for hundreds of years.

It is said that in the Tang Dynasty, master Haitong and his master Haineng, who carved the Leshan Giant Buddha, traveled to dujiangying, Guiyang, just when the Shamu river overflowed, the village farmland was flooded, and the people were homeless. In the meantime, the three rivers on the west wall of Lingyun temple in Leshan, where they became monks, were also seriously affected by floods. Therefore, the master and apprentice discussed to carve a giant Buddha on the southeast side of Shamu River Bridge and the three rivers on the west wall of Lingyun temple in Leshan to suppress River demons. The old mage was old and weak, so he could not travel a long distance. He stayed to be responsible for the carving of Dharma. Monk Haitong, a disciple, went to Leshan in his prime to be responsible for carving the Giant Buddha. Soon after the excavation of the water Buddha, the old master died of illness. This stone Buddha has become the unfinished work of the old master. It was not until the beginning of this century that the local government raised funds to carve some parts of the Buddha statue, and the Buddha in xiadashui was able to show his true body.

Digging up facts

The Giant Buddha was built in 2001. The nose, eyes, ears and eyebrow moles of the Giant Buddha were all hand carved. The project cost more than 200000 yuan in total.

At that time, the village cooperated with a professor from the Art Department of a university in Guizhou to set up a tourism development company, hoping to promote the development of local tourism by building the Giant Buddha. Half of the money for building the Buddha is raised by the villagers, and the other half is from the professor. Unfortunately, after the Buddha was repaired, the development of tourism was not settled due to personnel changes.
