brief introduction
Lianquan cave is located in the valley at the north foot of Baimian Jiangjun mountain, 1km south of Nanping Town, Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. There are temples such as "datuyan" beside the cave and a stream nearby. Using the drop of the stream, a pool is built in front of "datuyan" and a "Jinli fountain" is built inside. Next to the temple, there are huge stones stacked into holes and winding paths. The cave is secluded. With the two pavilions on the Boulevard, Lianquan cave is beautiful, quiet and pleasant. There are many stone carvings in it, vigorous and powerful. Lianquan cave is also famous for its mellow mineral water at home and abroad.
The legend of Ma'an
Lianquan cave was originally named "Ma'an" because there is a black faced general mountain in the south of Shawei (the place name used to be in Nanping). The mountain ranges are connected by hills. From a distance, it looks like a general on horseback. There is a Dashi cave on the hillside. When Mr. Kanyu came here to inspect fengshui, he called the cave the stable of the general's dragon horse, so he called it.
There used to be a Guanyin stone in Ma'an. It is said that four or five hundred years ago, Shawei was a sparsely populated island called cucurbit. At that time, fishermen often moored boats to the north of the island (where xianglushi is now) to weave nets and cable. One evening, the wind was clear and the moon was clear. All of a sudden, there was a flash of fire on the mountain. Some curious fishermen immediately went ashore and ran up the mountain to search. As soon as they arrived at dashiyan cave, they found a piece of diorite triangle stone more than one foot high beside the cave, shining under the refraction of water light. These fishermen believed that the gods had come to light, so they reverently took the triangle stone as the statue of Avalokitesvara and put it in the center of the cave wall, then lit candles to burn incense and worshipped. Since then, hundreds of fishermen have come here to pray for the peace of the wind.
The origin of Lianquan
During the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, Rong Jun, a native of Nanping, resigned from his official post in 1828 and lived in seclusion. He often invited several scholars, such as ou zehuan, to climb mountains and rivers to explore the secluded. Once, when they came here, they saw the shade of banyan, the stone pits were like a bowl, the streams were congcongcong, sweet and cold, so they could wash their feet, wash their faces, and cool their hearts. When they stepped into the cave, they suddenly felt that they were far away from the common customs, and their mind was elegant. They were like the Penglai cave, which was really the "best place to visit". They thought that the name of Ma'an was very popular, so they quoted Zhou Dunyi, the founder of Neo Confucianism in the Song Dynasty, as "Mr. Lianxi", and named it Lianquan. According to the legend of the wizard of fairies left here, Rong Jun wrote: "the Weishui River irrigates zhaofazhang, and Lianquan springs rise to the top." Ou zehuan also wrote a couplet, saying: "the ancient woods are full of trees, the cave is full of trees, the spring is full of water, the year of fruit is coming.". The two couplets are engraved on the screen walls on both sides of the moon gate of the cave, and the gate forehead is inscribed with the word "Lian Quan". At that time, Rong Jun also initiated the local people to raise money and built two temples near Lianquan cave. On the left side is the "Jinhua Temple" and on the right side is the "Sansheng Temple". They also set up teahouses and temple houses.
History of Lianquan cave
During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, there was a zhaigu named Rong Zhi in Nanping, who devoted herself to the noble family's empty door. Every day, she began to crow and sweep the court. She used the money from Huayuan to build a four pillar iron Pavilion in front of the gate of Lianquan cave for people to worship and repair the temple.
Lianquan cave has a long history. During the Cang depression period, Lianquan cave was destroyed, the iron Pavilion and two temples were demolished and sold, and even the Guanyin stone in the nunnery disappeared. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the compatriots of Hong Kong and Macao donated money to rebuild, built three pavilions and corridors, such as "ciyin" and "xianbang", and planted many flowers and trees. Later, after wind and rain erosion, coupled with ten years of human destruction, Lianquan building almost into ruins. It was not until September 1984 that a tourism company was set up in Nanping town to raise funds for the redevelopment of Lianquan cave that Lianquan's style and features took on a new look.
