School of law, University of Macau

The Law School of the University of Macao, which is subordinate to the University of Macao, has the longest history in Macao. The law school offers bachelor of law courses in Chinese and Portuguese, master of law and post bachelor certificate courses and doctor of law courses in Chinese, Portuguese and English.

The Bachelor of law program of the Law School of the University of Macao aims to train legal talents who are familiar with the legal system of Macao. Graduates can be competent for legal practice and theoretical research work in Macao or other places. The master of law and post bachelor certificate courses and doctoral courses aim to cultivate senior legal talents engaged in practical work, theoretical research and teaching in Macao law, comparative law, European Union Law, international law, international commercial law, constitution and basic law, criminal law, etc.

The law school plays a very important role in the localization of Macao law and the cultivation of legal talents. The vast majority of bilingual judges, prosecutors and civil servants in the MSAR government are graduates of the Law School of the University of Macau.

The teaching system of law school basically belongs to Roman Germanic or European continental law system, with rigorous teaching style, strict requirements and emphasis on quality. Macao's unique historical background makes its society and legal system open to the outside world.

All kinds of teaching methods are adopted in undergraduate teaching. The contents of the course cover important issues related to the development trend of contemporary law and the evolution of legal concepts. In the Bachelor of law courses of Chinese and Portuguese, there are also subjects such as European Union Law, international law and comparative law.

The teaching of master's degree and post bachelor's certificate courses, especially in the fields of European Union Law, international law and comparative law, adopts multicultural research methods due to the characteristics of the courses, and the teachers also have the characteristics of diverse backgrounds and cultures.

The law school has high-level faculty from Macao, mainland China, Portugal and other countries and regions. Teachers are mainly composed of professors, associate professors, assistant professors and young teachers with doctoral degrees. In addition, the law school regularly invites internationally renowned legal scholars to serve as visiting professors, and employs some current judges, prosecutors, legal experts and lawyers from government departments in Macao as part-time faculty. These international and local legal scholars enrich the teaching, research and learning environment of the law school.
