Historical evolution

In June 1958, it was founded for Gannan Normal College, located in Hongqi Avenue, Ganzhou City. In July 1959, Ganzhou College of physical education was merged. In 1960, the school changed to Gannan Normal University.

In 1962, the institutions of higher learning adjusted and stopped recruiting new students. They were only responsible for training middle school teachers. In 1964, the school resumed enrollment and the name of Gannan Normal College was restored. It was listed as one of the pilot units of part-time work (Agriculture) and part-time study in national normal colleges.

In March 2016, the Ministry of education sent a letter to approve the university to be renamed Gannan Normal University.

On November 10, 2017, Gannan Normal University established the red culture college. The leading group of red culture education and the Council of red culture college have been established, and three new red classes of the fourth batch have been named.
