History and culture
Yuzhen palace was built by the emperor for a Wudang Taoist named Zhang Sanfeng. Zhang Sanfeng is a magical figure in the history of Taoism and martial arts in China. He never forgets reading books, knows astronomy and geography, has brilliant talents, and is highly skilled in martial arts. He comes and goes without a trace. He travels and preaches in various famous mountains and rivers in China, and has a great influence among the people. He is regarded as a "true immortal". In the early years of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty, Zhang Sanfeng came to Wudang Mountain, where he once practiced in nunnery. Wudang boxing, which he performed and created, was famous all over the world. After the continuous evolution and development of the masters of the past dynasties, it eventually became one of the most influential schools in Chinese Wushu. Because Zhang Sanfeng was regarded as the founder of Wudang martial arts, Yuzhen palace was also revered by the first son of Wudang boxing, and practiced boxing here. When Zhang Sanfeng was in Wudang Mountain, he once said that this mountain will prosper in another day. Decades later, Emperor Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty did overhaul Wudang. Later, Zhang Sanfeng left Wudang Mountain and disappeared. Both Zhu Yuanzhang and Zhu Di of Ming Dynasty sent envoys to visit Zhang Sanfeng. In his letter to Zhang Sanfeng, Ming Chengzu also said: "I'm afraid The true immortals have lofty morality and are beyond all things. I'm a man of rare and mediocre talent, but I'm willing to see you all the time. " However, it backfired. No one could visit Zhang Sanfeng, who has "the skill of seeing for a long time, and has made outstanding contributions to joining the world". This Wudang expert has become a mystery and is admired by later generations. In order to express his sincerity, Emperor Chengzu of Ming Dynasty ordered the construction of "Yuzhen Palace" and ordered Zhang Sanfeng's statues to be placed in the center of the main hall for worshiping. It is unique in Chinese history that the supreme emperor built a temple for a Taoist in Wudang Mountain, worshipped a statue and sent officials to sweep it. Therefore, Yuzhen palace has become an important part of Wudang Taoism.
Chronology of Events
During the Anti Japanese War, Yuzhen palace was opened as "China wartime child care home". The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China sent the underground party and more than 20 progressive young people as teachers to protect many martyrs' orphans and revolutionary descendants. The film "spring breeze turns into rain" is based on this theme and shot in Yuzhen palace.
In 1994, Wudang Mountain was listed as a "world cultural heritage" by UNESCO.
In 1996, the cultural relics department of Wudang Mountain special tourism zone government rented the Yuzhen palace to Chen Kui, who came from Hunan Province, for 15000 yuan a year to open a martial arts school.
On January 19, 2003, a fire broke out in chenkui martial arts school, which reduced the important temple in the world cultural heritage Wudang Mountain ancient building complex to ashes.
Due to the heightening of Danjiangkou reservoir of South to North Water Diversion Project, the East-West gate and zhonggongshan gate of Yuzhen palace, located at the edge of the reservoir, will be raised by 15m in situ.
On August 27, 2012, Xinhua News Agency reported that Yuzhen palace in Wudang Mountain will rise 15 meters to match the Middle Route Project of South to north water diversion. The cost of the whole protection project may exceed 200 million yuan, which is the largest single cultural relic protection project with the largest scale and investment in the Middle Route Project of South to north water diversion.
Protection record
Yuzhen palace, which was listed in the world cultural heritage list with the ancient buildings of Wudang Mountain in 1994, is now facing the test of how to avoid being submerged. Yuzhen palace, located at the northern foot of Wudang Mountain in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, is one of the "nine palaces and nine temples" of Wudang Mountain. According to the literature, Zhang Sanfeng, a famous Taoist in the early Ming Dynasty, built a nunnery here, which was called Huixian hall. Yongle ten years (AD 1412), Ming Dynasty zuchi built Yuzhen palace, completed five years later. The main body of Yuzhen Palace consists of the middle palace, the West Palace and the east palace. The ground buildings of the West Palace and the East Palace have been destroyed. Most of the existing ground buildings, such as palace gate, palace wall, dragon and tiger hall, Zhenxian hall and accessory hall, belong to the main building of the central axis sacrifice area (Zhonggong). "Danjiangkou reservoir is the water source area of the Middle Route Project of South to north water diversion. With the heightening of the dam and the improvement of water level, Danjiangkou City and Wudang Mountain Special Zone under the jurisdiction of Shiyan City in Hubei Province will be inundated. Yuzhen palace is in a submerged area because of its low terrain. " Cultural relics in Hubei Province: 697 meters. However, because the ground buildings of the East and West palaces of Yuzhen palace have been destroyed, and the literature is unknown, only comprehensive scientific exploration and excavation of Yuzhen palace can provide a scientific basis for the determination of the protection project. "As one of the most important cultural relics protection projects in the Middle Route Project of South to North Water Diversion, the impact of dam heightening of Danjiangkou Reservoir on Yuzhen palace protection must be minimized." Meng Huaping said.
Embankment cofferdam
As the preferred scheme: under the consensus of protecting Yuzhen palace, the feasibility study report of Yuzhen palace protection scheme has been published, in which three kinds of protection schemes have been put forward, namely "local elevation protection", "embankment cofferdam" and "remote relocation". "If local elevation protection is adopted, the scale of the project is too large, and there may be problems in technical support." Meng Huaping said, "the use of remote relocation protection, the building on the ground to grasp the larger, but the original building interface under the accumulation, now is not clear, it is difficult to grasp." From December 2005 to March 2006, the Institute of cultural relics and Archaeology of Hubei Province organized personnel to carry out an archaeological clearance of 9000 square meters and dissection of key parts of Yuzhen palace. The Western Palace area within the palace wall of Yuzhen palace has been cleared and excavated, which has revealed a relatively complete picture of the architectural relics of the Western Palace: house site, water wells, roads, drainage ditches And unearthed a number of precious cultural relics. "Now, the layout, features and contents of the Western Palace are basically clear." "Through archaeological excavation, it has been proved that it is feasible to build dykes and cofferdams in situ for protection," Meng said Recently, the State Administration of cultural relics has agreed in principle to adopt the idea of engineering protection to protect Yuzhen palace. According to the person in charge of the Hubei Provincial Bureau of cultural relics, the specification of the planned cofferdam is medium to large.
Cause controversy
The protection of Yuzhen palace includes earth and stone works, restoration and restoration of cultural relics, with a total investment of more than 185 million yuan. Zhao Benxin said that it may actually exceed 200 million yuan, of which the cost of lifting three doors is about 20 million yuan. And Shu Tao said: "according to the progress of the project, the total investment is estimated to reach 200 million."
Some people say it's worth while others say it's not. A more consistent view is that the protection of cultural relics can not be measured by money.
The rescue protection project of Yuzhen palace in Wudang Mountain, which has attracted much attention, started the jacking project on August 1. For nearly 200 million, only to raise the three gates of Yuzhen Palace by 15 meters. As the most expensive site protection scheme in history, some public opinions have raised questions.
First of all, it should be noted that the total budget investment of Wudang Mountain "Yuzhen Palace" cultural relics protection project is more than 185 million yuan. The protection project generally includes three parts: demolition and restoration of cultural relics, lifting of palace gate, and elevation of earthwork. The protection project started last year and will be completed in January 2015. The cost of lifting three doors is about 20 million yuan, accounting for 1 / 9 of the total cost of the protection project.
