Doumen town

Doumen town belongs to Doumen District, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. It is located in the south of Pearl River Delta and the northwest of Doumen district.

Doumen town covers an area of 105 square kilometers with a permanent population of 52666 (in 2017). The town has Jintai temple, Royal hot spring resort, Doumen ancient street and other tourist attractions.

In October 2019, Doumen town was selected as one of the "Top 1000 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2019".

Historical evolution

Since the Southern Song Dynasty, it was called chaocuri, which was the patrol station of the capital of all dynasties; during the period of the Republic of China, it was the residence of the district office, where Zhongshan County government had temporarily moved during the Anti Japanese War; after the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was the residence of the eight and nine District People's governments of Zhongshan County, and the Social Affairs Committee of Doumen people's commune; since the founding of the county, it was the temporary residence of the county government.

It was named Doumen town in January 1986, and the town government was set up in Doumen market; it was designated as the provincial central town in 2002; it was rated as the tourism characteristic town of Guangdong Province in 2008; it successfully established the provincial special cultural station in 2012; and it was rated as the historical and cultural town of Guangdong Province in 2012.

Doumen town is located in the magnificent Huangyang mountain system in the East pillow, adjacent to Qianwu town in the south, facing Sandui town in Xinhui across Hutiaomen waterway in the West and Lianzhou town in the north. The town covers an area of 105 square kilometers (in 2017), with a cultivated area of 32600 mu. The permanent population of the town was 52666 (2017).

Transportation facilities

Doumen town is the west gate of land transportation in Doumen District and even Zhuhai City, with convenient transportation. It is 15 kilometers away from Doumen port, and only 30 minutes' drive to Zhuhai port and Zhuhai airport. It is a must pass between Jiangmen and western Guangdong. Huangyang Avenue and Doumen Avenue are the main roads in the town. A 3.4km ecological greenway connects major scenic spots around the town. The Western Coastal Expressway has entrances and exits. The airport expressway, Gaolan Port Expressway and Guangzhou Zhuhai railway all pass through the town, forming a regional transportation hub.

Doumen town has not only beautiful natural landscape, but also historical and cultural landscape, forming a unique tourism resource of "one mountain, one temple, one hot spring, one emperor, one general and one family". Six scenic spots are in Doumen town. The following have been developed: Yu hot spring resort with a well-known spring flow of more than 2400 tons and water temperature of 68 ℃ - 70 ℃; Huangyang mountain with an altitude of 581 meters, known as "the first peak of the Pearl River portal"; Jintai temple, one of the ten sights of Zhuhai; Doumen ancient street of Qing Dynasty and Nanmen Xuyi hall with tourism and historical research value; and Nanmen Jiexia village, one of the first batch of "ancient villages in Guangdong Province" Zhuang has signed a framework agreement with Zhuhai Special Economic Zone newspaper to carry out the restoration and development of the project, with an initial investment of 83.8 million yuan. Doumen old street is an ancient street that combines western and Lingnan architectural styles. It is said that it has a history of more than 100 years. The T-shaped street is densely packed with shops with arcades on both sides, one by one. Most of them are well preserved, simple and elegant. Walking on the street, it seems to go back to the era of Fengyun Jihui 100 years ago, with special flavor. It became a popular spot for films in the early Republic of China, such as the movie the temptation of pigtails. It was also the economic and cultural center of Doumen town. In the past, the streets were full of goods, busy and prosperous. The shops on the street are long and narrow, with two storeys in the front seat and three or even four storeys in the back seat. They have many functions: the front seat is underground for business; the second floor is usually the reception hall of the owner; the back seat is three storeys, which is used as the daily living place of the warehouse and the owner's family; some have back gardens with wells and fruit trees. In the late 1990s, with the transfer of the economic center, the commercial activities of Doumen old street were quiet. But the style is still the same, which depends on the owners of these ancient buildings have the consciousness of protecting their ancestors, and they still do not change the original facilities under the impact of the economic tide, thus forming a different style here, which is the only well preserved ancient street in Doumen district. Now the government takes the lead to repair and develop tourism projects. After 2012, many shops have been re operated. The quiet and elegant temperament is still the mainstream here.

The main agricultural products in Doumen town are rice, aquatic products and fruits. In 2009, the rice planting area of the town was 22300 mu, with a total output of 8467 tons; the aquaculture area was 14522 mu, with a total output of 11070 tons; the fruit planting area was 18473 mu, with a total output of 7490 tons, of which the litchi area was 12200 mu, which is quite famous as the hometown of litchi. The total agricultural output value was 446 million yuan, up 35% year on year. The rural per capita net income was about 8227 yuan, an increase of 7.12%.

Doumen town has three middle schools with 6129 middle school students and 375 teachers.
