Danshui old street

The most bustling street in Taiwan's Tanshui is Zhongzheng Road, which is a collection of food, snacks and old streets. In recent years, many antique shops and folk art shops have moved in, creating a folk and nostalgic flavor.

Danshui riverside is not only a synonym for beauty, but also a place to create romantic customs. It has beautiful riverside scenery and rich historical and cultural characteristics. On the west side of Zhongzheng Road, Jianshe street, Qingshui street and other old streets, you can see many ancient brick shops. The several old temples in the period of location reflect the local development history: the oldest Fuyou temple is said to have been built in the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty in the 18th century; Wenchang temple, Longshan Temple and Jianshe temple were completed in the 19th century; zushi temple was also completed in the early 20th century. Today, walking on the ramp and visiting the old Danshui street, the life of our ancestors is still in front of us.

After the Japanese occupation, Danshui port was gradually silted up. The rise of Keelung port made Danshui port look pale, so it declined and became a small local fishing port. However, the most famous scenery on the freshwater coast is twilight, which has been praised by countless poets and painters. At the bow of the ferry, there are ferries between Danshui and Bali on the other side. Many people board the ferry just to enjoy the fun on the rippling river. From the boat, we can see the mangrove reserve in the marshland of freshwater bank.

Zhongzheng Road: commonly known as the old street, it refers to Zhongzheng Road (formerly Huwei Street), with a total length of more than 1 km. The road design is mainly characterized by 6-meter lane and sidewalk. In 2000, due to road widening construction, the original red brick sidewalk was paved into granite floor. At the 2004 Danshui Art Festival, local artists of Danshui created a 16 meter long art wall at the entrance of the old street by firing pottery, and the word was "Yihang Huwei". Along Chung Cheng Road, there are many traditional strip style multi span Street houses in Taiwan. Along the way, there are Dr. Mackay Stone Park, Tanshui qingshuiyan and other historic sites.

Gongming Street: in recent years, due to the opening of the Taipei MRT Tanshui line, the tailless lane, which was originally full of factories, has become the main channel of the MRT square. On both sides of the street houses, business opportunities brought by the crowd, so that many businesses settled, forming another section of the old street downtown.

Reconstruction Street: located on the east side of Fuyou palace and on the top of Mount saizai, reconstruction street has the longest history among the old streets, with a total length of about 600 meters. It was the residence of political and commercial celebrities in the early Huwei era.

Mackay Street: during the Qing Dynasty, Wenkou customs office was set up in this street. After the opening of Danshui port, it became a distribution center for foreign goods. Two old wells, located at 22 Mackay street and behind the chapel, are still preserved.

Fresh water has a long history, but also developed a variety of food style. There are many seafood restaurants on Zhongzheng road close to the coast, among which Haifeng restaurant is the most popular. In terms of snacks, Tanshui fish balls, fish cakes, iron eggs, a gei, etc. are the most popular, as well as the delicious Tanshui sour plum soup, etc. On both sides of Zhongzheng Road, there are many fish balls and fish cakes shops, among which there are many old shops with a long history, such as Deyu fish balls, delicious fish balls, Weixiang fish balls, Xuyi fish cakes, etc.; the intriguing "iron egg" is the stewed egg, which is repeatedly marinated, and finally the protein shrinks into a thin black phloem, with a mellow smell. Po iron egg has a history of more than 30 years, and is one of the most famous snacks in Danshui town. The method of "a Gei" is to fry the tofu skin, fill it with vermicelli, paste it with fish paste, steam it and pour it with special chili sauce. After eating authentic snacks, you might as well have a cup of sour plum soup with sour and sweet taste to satisfy your taste buds.
