Relocation and reconstruction
The original site of Yongle Palace is Caixia village, Yongle Town, Ruicheng County, on the North Bank of the Yellow River southwest of Ruicheng. In 1959, as Yongle Palace was located in the impoundment area of the planned Sanmenxia reservoir, craftsmen carefully studied how to remove and reconstruct the murals of nearly 1000 square meters. The final relocation plan is to demolish the roofs of several palaces first, and then use a special human sawing method to saw off the mural walls one by one with a saw blade. In the process of relocation, more than 550 pieces were sawed out, and each piece was marked. Then, with the same sawing method, the murals firmly attached to the wall are separated from the wall, and all of them are marked and put into a wooden box filled with thick cotton tires. The walls, thin sections of murals and other components were gradually transported to the foot of Zhongtiao Mountain. First, the palace was re inlaid, and a new layer of wood was laid on the inner wall of the wall. Then the murals were pasted one by one, and finally the murals were carefully decorated by the painter. The project took five years to complete.
