Shanxi Grand Theater is located in the east-west axis of cultural island in Changfeng business district, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. It is a city landmark that dominates the architectural style of the whole island. The total land area of Shanxi Grand Theater is about 85697 square meters. The main building is 54 meters high and 210 meters long. The total investment is 790 million yuan, mainly including 1628 main theaters, 1170 concert halls and 458 small theaters and rehearsal halls.

General situation

Shanxi Grand Theater is located in the east-west axis of cultural island in Changfeng business district, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. It is a city landmark that dominates the architectural style of the whole island. The total land area of Shanxi Grand Theater is about 85697 square meters, the net land area of the project is about 64905 square meters, and the total construction area is about 62000 square meters. The main building is 54 meters high and 210 meters long. The project covers an area of about 80 mu, with a total construction area of 73000 square meters and a total investment of 790 million yuan. It mainly includes 1628 main theaters, 1170 concert halls, 458 small theaters, rehearsal hall, piano room, studio, stand rest hall, dressing room, props and clothing room, etc.

Shanxi grand theater can meet the needs of large-scale opera, dance drama (including ballet), drama, large-scale magic, acrobatics, large-scale variety show, large-scale symphony, national music and chamber music performance. Among them, the stage of the main theater is in the shape of "pin", which is divided into the main stage, the left and right symmetrical side stage and the back stage. The concert hall is a typical "shoe box" concert hall, which can play large-scale indoor symphonies. The supporting facilities include the orchestra lounge, studio, instrument storage room, etc., as well as music teaching places. Small theater has multi-function, which can be combined into basic stage forms such as plane hall, conference hall, small theater, convex stage theater and central stage according to the needs of performance. It can meet the needs of various local dramas, drama and special performances with special needs. Shanxi Provincial Science and Technology Museum, Shanxi Provincial Library, Shanxi Grand Theater, China (Taiyuan) coal trading center, Shanxi Sports Center, Shanxi hospital, new terminal of Taiyuan International Airport, new railway station of Taiyuan, Taiyuan Museum and Taiyuan art museum are ten key buildings in the provincial capital.

Architectural design

Shanxi Grand Theatre is designed by the French firm chabangjie, who has designed Shanghai Grand Theatre. The overall design is concise and has a strong sense of sculpture. With a heavy and powerful architectural image, it expresses the simple and heroic humanistic temperament and regional characteristics of the people of Shanxi Province. At the same time, its majestic architectural style and grand door space perfectly reflect the design concept of the main building "Shanxi gate", and continue the city axis in a transparent way, becoming the city landmark of the cultural island building group.

The design of Shanxi Grand Theater combines with the development level of Shanxi Province, adheres to the principles of atmosphere, practicality and economy, implements the functional orientation of urban planning, continues the urban context, and shapes the landmark urban landscape in coordination with the surrounding buildings. Finally, the concept of "three platforms" gradually takes shape: the Grand Theater will be built into a platform for inheriting the excellent traditional culture of Shanxi Province and displaying the cultural heritage of contemporary Shanxi Province Platform, a platform for domestic and international cultural exchanges.

Construction process

In 1982, at the beginning of reform and opening up, the project of Shanxi Grand Theater was approved by the Provincial Planning Commission. At the same time, it acquired land and was prepared by the Provincial Department of culture. Unfortunately, in 1989, the provincial government decided to postpone the construction because of financial problems. The construction land was changed in 1996. It was not until the 83rd executive meeting of the provincial government in 2002 that the project was resumed.

In 2006, the work report of the provincial government proposed that the new library project of Shanxi provincial library should be launched in the 11th five year plan. On June 18, the provincial development and Reform Commission convened a meeting of the Provincial Department of culture, various project units and other relevant departments to officially launch six major projects, including the Grand Theater and the library.

On February 5, 2007, the 95th executive meeting of the provincial government officially determined the Shanxi Grand Theater and the new provincial library as the six key projects of the province. The provincial development and Reform Commission officially approved the project on March 9, 2007. Located in Changfeng business and cultural zone, south of Changfeng West Street, Taiyuan City, the land for the project is allocated by Taiyuan municipal government free of charge.

On April 6, 2007, the design bidding documents of the project were completed; on April 12, the bidding documents for the architectural design of Shanxi Grand Theater and Shanxi provincial library were issued to the bidders at the same time; on April 27, the query and clarification work was completed.

The tender document was accepted on June 10, 2007, and the bid evaluation was conducted from June 11 to 12, 2007, resulting in three winning schemes. After many experts and citizens' selection, today's project plan was finally confirmed.

As of September 2009, the project under the platform has been completed, the top of the three-story structure of the concert hall has been sealed, and the construction of the four story structure has started, the construction of the two-story structure of the main theater is in progress, and the foundation pit excavation of the small theater is in progress.

Performance information

At 15:00 on January 7, 2012, the first performance of Shanxi Grand Theater was held to express sympathy to the builders day and night. Many famous actors in Shanxi Province participated in the performance.

At 19:30 on September 13, 2013, Li Yundi toured Taiyuan station.
