Luodian Red Cross monument
During the "August 13" Anti Japanese war in 1937, after landing at Shahekou, Xiaochuan, the Japanese attacked Luodian, a military town on the north wing of Shanghai, attempted to occupy Luodian, threatened Jiading, cut off the Beijing Shanghai railway, and blocked the way back for the Shanghai Garrison.
On August 23, Luodian was hit by an air raid. Yuan Jinhan, a pilot of the Chinese air force, was unfortunately shot in an air battle with the enemy. The plane was destroyed and people were injured in the outskirts of Luodian. Su Keji, deputy leader of the first rescue team of Shanghai Branch of the Red Cross Society of China, immediately led the team members to rescue. After the Japanese army arrived, Su Keji and others hid the wounded safely, but he was unfortunately captured and killed. The martyrs were Xie Huixian, Liu Zhongwu and Chen Xiufang.
Luodian memorial to the martyrs of Anti Japanese war was first built on August 13, 1935, and was completed on August 13, 1936. It was originally called the memorial to the martyrs of the first rescue team of Shanghai Branch of the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China.
In June 1981, due to the disrepair of the original monument, Baoshan County Civil Affairs Bureau Re erected a monument in the northwest corner of Luodian middle school. In March 1984, the Municipal Council of Cultural Affairs allocated funds to rebuild the monument 15 meters northwest of the original monument. It was announced as the Anti Japanese memorial site in Shanghai on March 19, 1984.
Now the monument is located at the site of Chen Bochuan middle school (formerly Guangming Middle School). The monument is on the east side of the school, between two teaching buildings. In front of the monument stands the inscription of the Red Cross monument in Luodian, Shanghai Anti Japanese memorial site. The Shanghai Municipal People's government announced the establishment of the monument by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of cultural relics on March 19, 1984.
