Pingyao Theater

Known as "China's Moulin Rouge", it was first built in the 42nd year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1703). In history, it was a famous place for officials and gentry, merchants' leisure and performing banquets and dances.

The main theater is surrounded by the dragon wall, which is a relatively independent courtyard, composed of closed performing hall, bar area, Theater Gallery and dongnanhai guest house. On a rock in the west of the courtyard, qigong, a great calligrapher, inscribed the name of "Da Xi Tang".
