Development history
Sihai teapot museum was founded by Xu Sihai, a famous teapot collector and purple clay pottery artist. It was founded in 1987 on the quiet Yuyuan Road. It became the earliest private museum in Shanghai and even in China at that time. It entertained guests with tea and made friends with teapots. In 1991, under the direct concern of Shanghai municipal government, Xu Sihai built the museum on Xingguo Road, Changning District, Shanghai The Sihai teapot Museum, which is among the best in the world, displays more than 300 pieces of all kinds of teapots from Neolithic to modern times, which constitutes a clear history of the development of Chinese ceramics and provides a powerful demonstration for the development of Chinese culture. At the same time, in order to promote the tea culture in China, he gave lectures and publicity everywhere without pay, and donated a batch of ancient ceramics and purple clay teapots to Yixing Ceramic Museum in Jiangsu and Jiading District Museum in Shanghai.
Since the 1990s, Xu Sihai has been making great efforts to develop tea culture. In 1993, the first private museum in Shanghai was officially approved by the Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Administration Committee. It settled in Jiangqiao town (now Zhenxin Street), opened up the Baifo garden, and moved the Sihai teapot museum to the Baifo Garden in the outer ring of Cao'an Road, making a new contribution to the cultural construction of Jiading District In 2004, Sihai teapot Museum in Baifo garden was rated as one of the top ten folk museums in China.
