brief introduction
Xuantianling is located in the north of Jilin City, 282 meters above sea level, with winding mountains and emerald hills. In 1738, Xuandi temple, also known as Zhenwu temple, was built on the mountain. On xuantianling mountain, there is a picture of avoiding fire, which is made of eight trigrams with green bricks, about five feet in diameter. Among them, the image of Kan trigram means water, and it turns to water to put out the fire, so as to protect Jilin Forest from loss. Xuantianling has three main halls, three matching verandas, six Zen halls and three Doumu pavilions. The front hall is dedicated to Emperor Zhenwu. In the hall, there is a beam suspended in the air and a column off the ground. It is called "suspended beam and hanging column" and is one of the eight scenic spots in Jilin City.
history
Qianlong period
In the seventh year of Qianlong (1742), hundreds of Jilin government offices and official houses were destroyed by fire; in the 24th year of Qianlong (1759), more than 700 houses were destroyed by fire; in the 28th year of Qianlong (1763), more than 240 houses were destroyed by fire in June, and countless materials were burned; in the 50th year of Qianlong (1790), many houses were burned in the city, and the Confucian temple in Yongji was also burned. In 1791, a fire broke out again in Jilin City on April 20. After the disaster, a member of the Council of Jilin Province, who was named Wang, claimed to know geography and geomancy. He suggested that the "kan Gua Tu stone" should be built on Tianling mountain in the north of the city. He said that he could pray for the shipyard fire in Tianlai town. Later, with the approval of Jilin general Heng Xiu, Eight Trigram shaped "kan Gua Tu Shi" was built on Xuantian mountain, commonly known as "fire avoiding Tu".
Jiaqing period
In the 11th year of Jiaqing (1806), the shipyard was burned. A big fire destroyed more than 8000 government and civilian houses in the city, and Jilin city was almost wiped out by the fire. On March 25, 1890, the shipyard was burned. The fire spread from niumachang to Beidajie and Henan Street, and more than 2500 houses including Jiangjun yamen were completely destroyed. "Jilin general Changshun's house was also burned down", but when it was "exposed along the street by the fire poor", Changshun, as the highest officer of Jilin Province, wanted to build a private house, which was denounced by the imperial court as "really desolate" and was demoted to stay in office. Jilin city was burned six times from 1759 to 1930, three of which were burnt out, and most of them were burnt out three times. One of the victims wrote a poem when he was on the run: "who was responsible for the flood last year? This year, 5000 families are burning, and thousands of families are scorched with bricks and bones." It can be seen that the victims are so miserable after the disaster. On xuantianling mountain, there is a picture of avoiding fire, which is made of eight trigrams with green bricks, about five feet in diameter. Among them, the image of Kan trigram means water, and it turns to water to put out the fire, so as to protect Jilin Forest from loss.
geographical position
Xuantianling is located in the north of Jilin City, like a natural barrier of the city. In response to the theory of "Zuo Qinglong, you Baihu, Qian Zhuque and Hou Xuanwu", a Taoist temple was built in xuantianling in the third year of Qianlong (1738) of the Qing Dynasty, which is called Xuandi temple. Because the temple worships Zhenwu emperor, it is also called Zhenwu temple. The design of this temple building is unique. There is a beam suspended in the air and a column off the ground, which becomes a wonderful "hanging beam and hanging column", one of the eight old scenes in Jilin.
"Kan Gua Tu Shi" is another building on Xuantian mountain. It is made of green bricks, with a diameter of five feet. It is inlaid with stone bars to form a Kan shaped hexagram. Kan Gua is water, according to the theory of five elements of water and fire. "Lu's spring and Autumn Annals, you shi" said: "the north is called Xuantian", "the color of the water is black, so it is called Xuantian." Xuantian is characterized by water. Standing at the "kan Gua Tu Shi", you can have a panoramic view of Jilin City, which seems to be a "geomantic treasure land". However, without effective fire prevention measures, it is only self deception to use superstitious methods to prevent fire. There are many fires in Jilin Province, especially in winter when the climate is dry. In winter, rivers are frozen, and there is no dripping water except for wells. Since the city was built in Jilin Province, there has been a move to dig wells in the past years in the areas of Xianghu, shangmin, Guanya and Shuyuan to "prepare for civilian use and prevent disasters". In 1891, there were 163 wells in the city. However, in the event of a major disaster, only using well water to put out the fire is still a drop in the bucket.
