Wind and rain cottage
Located in Xiaoying street, Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City, Yu Dafu personally selected the site and designed it. It was built in the spring of 1936 and is known as "Fengyu Maolu".
On April 23, 1986, the Hangzhou municipal government listed Yu Dafu's former residence in Hangzhou as a cultural relic protection unit at the municipal level in Hangzhou, and several renovations were carried out in the following 20 years.
It began to open to the outside world on September 1, 2015.
Overview of Maolu
"Wind and rain thatched cottage" is designed by Yu Dafu himself. The layout is divided into two parts: the main house and the backyard. Entering the gate, there are five or six bungalows on both sides. Through the patio, there are three main rooms, facing south in the north. In the middle, there is a living room and a back porch. The East and west of the hall are bedrooms and three corridors. There are toilets and kitchens in the northeast of the main house. The main house and the backyard are separated by decorative brick walls. There are three bungalows in the backyard, which are study and guest rooms. Half a meter above the ground, a row of three Bay brick houses surrounded by steps and cloisters, and several other study rooms separated by shadow walls and round doors, are decorated with rockeries, uneven trees, and elegant environment. In addition, the rockery garden is a typical Chinese bungalow villa. The house is still in its original state and is a cultural relic protection unit in Hangzhou.
Historical retrospect
In the spring of 1933, the writer Yu Dafu was persecuted by the Kuomintang authorities and his family moved to Hangzhou. He borrowed money to buy a piece of land in the south of No. 63 Guanchang Lane in Hangzhou, and built the "wind and rain Maolu", which was inscribed by the famous scholar Ma Junwu. Yu Dafu did not live in seclusion in Hangzhou. He served as the editorial board member of southeast Range Rover and the director of Hangzhou Writers Association. He often published essays in the supplement of southeast daily to expose the social darkness at that time.
According to Yu Dafu, there are more than 8000 or 9000 Chinese books in "fengfengfengmaolu". Among them, the books of song, yuan, Ming and late Qing Dynasty, as well as the forbidden books of early Qing Dynasty (specially collected for the study of novels between Ming and Qing Dynasties) are all his favorite masterpieces. Among the thread bound books, the most popular are "Taiping Yulan", "Taiping Guangji" and "Li's five kinds" A rare book. There are many rare and rare editions of the novels in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. For example, a novel named Sheng Xiao Jian, whose content is mostly set in Zhejiang Province, was destroyed at that time because it involved some powerful families, so it is very rare. There are more than 20000 books in English, German, French and Japanese. In English books, there are nine out of ten works on literature from Chaucer to the 19th century; in German books, there are all works of love song writers before Goethe; there are also complete works of Roman Roland, Gide and others abroad; there are basically complete German versions of Russian literature since the 19th century.
For a scholar who loves books as much as his life, it is a great pleasure in life if he can sit in such a Book City and smell the strong fragrance of books all day long. However, it is a pity that Yu Dafu did not have time to leave a bibliography for the numerous Chinese and foreign books hidden in the "wind and rain cottage". What is more sad is that soon after the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, all these books were scattered and destroyed in the war. At that time, there was a saying that Yu Dafu's collection of books was swept away by his classmates in Japan and the commander-in-chief of the Japanese invaders in Hangzhou. "Wind and rain cottage" is more and more endangered in the storm of history.
Opening to the outside world
On September 1, 2015, in order to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's Anti Japanese War and the world anti fascist war and the 70th anniversary of Yu Dafu's death, Yu Dafu's former residence in Hangzhou, "fengfengfengmaolu" was officially opened to the public. The reopened "Stormy cottage" is divided into five chapters: preface hall: Hangzhou footprints, entering Yu Dafu, Hangzhou feelings, Yu Yu and Wen, epilogue: Eternal imprint. It introduces in detail Yu Dafu's life story, activities in Hangzhou, his published literary works and correspondence, memories and comments of Yu Dafu from all walks of life, Yu Dafu's Novel Award and other related contents.
