Fuquan ancient temple
Fuquan ancient temple was first built in 1342, the second year of the reign of emperor Zhizheng of the Yuan Dynasty. It was originally named "ganlinyuan", with a main hall and two chambers, and a "Fuquan well" in the East behind the hall. Earlier than the excavation of the temple, Chinese ancient temples were often built according to water and wells. Because the water source was the foundation of the construction of the temple in ancient times, it was renamed as Fuquan temple, which means "the source of good fortune".

brief introduction
During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522-1366), this place was located along the coast of the East China Sea, and the ancient Fuquan temple was destroyed by the Japanese. It was rebuilt in the first year of Wanli (1573). The hall was rebuilt in 1781, and then renewed in 1796-1850. The temple was destroyed in 1862, the first year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. Only one ancient bell, 1.62 meters in height, 3.4 meters in circumference and 1600 kg in weight, was left. There were many bhiksunis in the temple. After liberation, they gradually returned to the secular life and participated in social production activities. During the cultural revolution, the Buddha statues were destroyed and the houses were used for other purposes. After 1978, the policy was implemented and the temple property was returned to Fuquan temple in 1993. In 1997, the management group of Fuquan temple was formed by monks and residents, and it was changed into a monk temple, which was opened and restored at the same time. In 1998, the main hall, gate and squatter house were built. In 1999, with the approval of Nanhui County People's government, it was re registered as a Buddhist temple. In February 2002, a new jade Buddha building was built. In 2010, the temple was completely renovated again. The gate was changed from west to south. The gate, the three story heavenly king hall, the left and right wing rooms and other antique buildings were rebuilt, which made the Fuquan Temple take on a new look and revitalize.
There are three treasures in Fuquan ancient temple: Longqing bell, fuquanjing and song gingko. On the bell of Longqing, there are three lines of Chinese characters: "Buddha's day adds radiance", "Falun Chang Zhuan" and "Huangtu YONGGU". In addition to the Buddha statues, most of them are the names of the donating believers, with the signature "believers of the 19th Baobao of Shanghai county". It is estimated that this place was originally the location of the 19th Baobao of Shanghai county. The inscription of Longqing bell is "Mei Yingqi and Mei Jingyang of Wuxi County, the fifth year of Longqing in the Ming Dynasty, on the auspicious day of June 25th in Xinwei". Since then, there have been some words like "Zu Daofang, the first teacher, Hong Xiankao, Xu Shenhe and Gu, Yongning monk, zhenrui, Xingyi and YONGYING". It is unknown whether this Yongning Temple is another alias of Fuquan temple. In 1981, Nanhui County People's government established a park several miles west of Fuquan temple in the name of ancient bell, and set up a Bell Pavilion. In March 1986, the ancient bell of Fuquan temple was declared as a cultural relic protection unit of Nanhui County by the people's Government of Nanhui County. On February 9, 2009, the "ancient bell" returned to Fuquan temple. The replica is kept in the Bell Pavilion for visiting.
In front of the Tianwang Hall of Fuquan temple, there were two ancient ginkgo trees planted in Song Dynasty. Now only one tree on the east side still exists and has been growing for thousands of years. It has become No. 0002 of the first class protection of ancient and famous trees in Shanghai. The tree age is 1000 years, which is one of the nine existing ancient ginkgo trees over 1000 years old in Shanghai.
present situation
Fuquan ancient temple was completely renovated in 2010. A piece of land and wing room in front of the original temple were recovered. The original gate facing Wenyu road was demolished, and the gate was changed to south direction. The gate was rebuilt. Today, the mountain gate has double eaves, yellow tiles and yellow walls. The plaque of the central temple is "Fuquan ancient temple". The couplet on both sides of the middle gate is written by Songjiang calligrapher Yang LiaoGong. The couplet "zigzagging and planting spiritual roots for 700 years still leaves Ginkgo biloba; the Golden Lotus is widely seen in the three thousand realms." on both sides of the three gates, the original couplet "four Dynasties ancient trees, two generations of Hongzhong" is still preserved. The back of the mountain gate is inclined to the Ginkgo biloba of the Millennium Song Dynasty. The plaque in the middle is "Tongyuan Zhongzhi", and the couplet is "Ginkgo biloba of the Millennium testifies to the truth, Bodhi realizes the Zen", which is initiated by the opportunity of Ginkgo biloba of the millennium.
