It is said that this God is in charge of human life and death and is the commander of ghosts. Therefore, the emperors and scholars of the past dynasties most worshipped the great emperor Dongyue. Most of the prefectures had Dongyue temples.
history
According to Nanchong county annals of Ming and Qing Dynasties, "there is a sutra Pavilion behind Dongyue Temple, in which there is a bronze jade emperor, four feet high, which is the most precious." At that time, a bronze bell was hung on the pavilion, and it sounded early in the morning. The sound spread to several miles. It was known as the "white tower morning bell", which was praised by visitors throughout the ages. There is also a crane tower in front of the Dongyue Temple, overlooking the river. It was built to commemorate Xie Tianran, a female Taoist in Guozhou, who crossed the crane to heaven in the daytime. In the reign of Emperor Huizong of Song Dynasty (about 1112), when Shao Bowen (from Luoyang) was the prefect of Guozhou, he once chanted in his poem "Crane Tower" that "spring comes and autumn goes, and the crane tower is better than Yugong tower." In the third year of Xuanhe (1121), Zhao Ze, the prefect of Guozhou (from Zhuoxian County, Hebei Province), once chanted the poem "Crane Tower" and said: "Jialing Tianhong drinks from the East China Sea, Xixi Yudai lingers in Nanshan. The peaks are surrounded by maids, and the surrounding area is like a ring. In the setting sun, the wind blows from the wind. During the great leap forward in 1958, Dongyue Temple was completely used by the central Sichuan Mining Bureau, and a petroleum instrument repair station was set up. In the 1980s, when the religious policy was implemented, all the houses used were returned to religious use. In August 2001, the people's Government of Gaoping District approved Dongyue Temple as a place for Buddhist activities and renamed it Baoshou temple. So the Bell Pavilion was rebuilt in front of the temple. A large bronze bell weighing two tons was cast and placed in the pavilion. At first, Shi linghang (commonly known as Yang Yuhua, from Xitou Township, Gaoping District) was appointed to preside over Buddhist affairs. Then, Shi Daohui (commonly known as Xiao Cixian, from Zhouxing Town, Longchang County) was appointed as the abbot.
