Jihong Bridge
Jihong bridge is an overpass in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China. It is the traffic hub and throat of Harbin. It is a typical European style bridge building.
Jihong bridge was built in April 1926 and put into use in September 1926;
In 1986, it was designated as a class I protected building; in 2008, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit in Harbin.
Jihong bridge is 51 meters long, 27.6 meters wide and 21.4 meters wide. The approach bridge has two-way six lanes and the bridge deck has two-way four lanes.
Construction process
In April 1926, Jihong bridge began to be built. It was designed by Vladimir andreyevich Bailey, a famous bridge structural expert in the public works Department of the Middle East Railway Administration, and constructed by Peter sergeyevich svilidorf, an architect.
In September of the same year, Jihong bridge was completed.
On November 28 of the same year, the completion and naming ceremony of Jihong bridge was held.
In 1986, Jihong bridge was designated as a class I protected building.
In 2008, Jihong bridge was designated as a cultural relic protection unit in Harbin.
Bridge location
Jihong bridge is located at the junction of Jihong street in Daoli District and Yiman street in Nangang District of Harbin city. It is an important traffic road connecting Daoli, Nangang and outside the road. It is a railway overpass in the downtown area of Commerce and trade,
It is not only the overpass of Binzhou and binsui railway across Songhua River, but also the transportation hub and throat of Harbin city.
Architectural design
Bridge structure
There are four ancient Egyptian obelisks at both ends of the main bridge of Jihong bridge as bridgehead towers. There are beautiful and straight lamp holders on the tower. The tower base is rectangular, and there are 24 flower ring decorative reliefs on each side. The carved iron railings gracefully decorate the Jihong bridge, with 12 pairs of double wing flywheels inlaid with symbolic Middle East Railway Road emblem marks on each side. The lion's head is carved on the pillar under the bridge, which is ingenious in design and exquisite in casting. The whole bridge has neither rivets nor bolts. Both the exquisite and unique shape of bow snake and the delicate decoration of Linglong show the charm and style of European architecture, which is elegant, simple and magnificent.

Jihong bridge is 51 meters long and 27.6 meters wide. The bridge deck is wide and solid, and the roadway is 21.4 meters wide. The approach bridge has 6 two-way lanes and 4 two-way lanes on the bridge, which can drive all kinds of vehicles. Besides, there is a sidewalk with a width of 3.1 meters. Under the bridge are Binzhou line and Binbei line of Rabin railway. Five groups of railway lines extend far away through the bridge arch.

Jihong bridge has two piers and three arch holes, the middle is high and the two ends are low. The bridge surface is bow shaped, without a rivet or a bolt. Get on the bus, get off the train. There are four obelisks on the bridge as bridgeheads. Obelisk is the construction technology of the new dynasty in ancient Egypt. The huge square stone column shrinks to a sharp point at the top. The column under the bridge is engraved with the lion's head. Its architectural form and style are unique.

Bridge naming
Jihongqiao is named after Liu Zhe, former director of the Middle East Railway Administration and former president of Harbin Institute of technology. Jihong comes from the verses of "hongxie Yuji" and "Fudao XingKong, Buji Hehong" in "preface to Tengwang Pavilion" and "Ode to Afang Palace", which express the meaning of "the rain stops the clouds, the long bridge is like a rainbow". Therefore, Liu zhe quoted Du Mu's a Fang Gong Fu: "long bridge lies in waves, what is the Dragon without clouds? What is the rainbow in the sky Jihong in the sentence is named "Jihong bridge". The meaning of Ji Hong, said the rain stop clouds, long bridge such as rainbow is also! At that time, Jihong bridge was also a rare Chinese named building in Harbin in 1920s. During the cultural revolution, the name of the bridge was changed to "Jihong bridge".
