Xilu
Xilu, founded in 1927. It is a garden style villa with ponds, rockeries, flowers and trees, covering an area of about 1 mu. The southeast gate of the garden villa is close to Beishan Road, and the entrance is a patio. In the middle of the patio is a three Bay hall with traditional Chinese style roof. Behind the hall is a patio, which is a two-story three Bay exquisite Western-style brick and wood building. In the west of the building, there are four auxiliary rooms. With a construction area of more than 300 square meters, Xilu is a two-way courtyard layout, with progressive layers of buildings and gradually elevated foundation. Two houses, one in the middle and one in the west, one low and one high, close to the mountain and lake, facing south, are really good places for rest and recuperation, which is also because of the name of Xilu: rest house.
On March 21, 2004, the author led the experts of Hangzhou history society to visit the courtyard No. 66, Beishan Road. At that time, there was no textual research on the stone tablet of "Xilu wall boundary" beside the laundry pool in the courtyard, and everyone returned with doubts. On March 23, Hangzhou Daily published the article "Beishan Road complex is the epitome of modern history", in which it was mentioned. On April 13, Wang Liyang, editor of Zhejiang ancient books publishing house, called Hangzhou Daily and said, "Xilu was built by my great grandfather. The Wang family tree says, "in 1927, my grandfather built a small building at 66 Beishan Road, named Xilu, and lived with my grandmother and my brother.". The grandfather mentioned in the genealogy is Wang liyang's great grandfather, who was born on the fourth day of April in the seventh year of Xianfeng (1857) of the Qing Dynasty. Wang's ancestral home is Shandong. In order to escape the war, Wang Jingfu fled to Hangzhou. When he first arrived in Hangzhou, he lived at the home of Xiang Zaoxin, a reformist and banker at that time. After the recommendation of Xiang Caixin, he entered the Bank of Qing to work. In the early years of the Republic of China, Daqing bank was changed into Bank of China. Xiang Caixin was the vice president of the head office, and Wang Jingfu also worked in the bank. In 1927, shortly after his wife died, Wang Jingfu was very sad and suffered a great physical and mental blow. So he took the second lady to the West Lake and spent a lot of money to buy the villa at 66 Beishan Road. He hoped that his old age could recuperate here, so he named it "Xilu". At that time, the house number was 92 Jingjiang road. Four years later, in the summer of 1931, Wang Jingfu died. Xilu was later rented to Xihu National Art College as a dormitory for teachers and students. After the 1950s, it became a mixed courtyard. The garden is gradually abandoned, the courtyard is gone, and the buildings and houses are in decline. Only the stone tablet of "the boundary of Xi Lu wall" lies quietly in the corridor to show the existence of Xi Lu to the people passing by.
