Dukezong ancient city was built according to the mountain situation. It was built according to the ideal country of Shambhala in Buddhist scriptures. It has two meanings of "castle built on stone" and "Moonlight City". The road surface of the ancient city is rugged, which is paved by some old stones with natural terrain. Up to now, there are still deep horseshoe marks on the stone road, which are the keepsake of time left by the horse gang of that year.

Unfortunately, on January 11, 2014, a sudden fire attacked the ancient city, resulting in the serious destruction of the ancient city. At present, the ancient city is under reconstruction.

Dukezong ancient city

Dukezong ancient city is the best preserved and largest Tibetan residential group in China. It is located in the north gate of dukezong ancient city and is the flower lane of dukezong. It is built by cedar culture and tourism group, integrating the experience of Tibetan intangible cultural heritage, the street of Tibetan culture, the 5th meteorite series Hotel, and the "meet Shangri La" show to provide Tibetan cultural experience.

In recent years, with the development of local tourism, Shangri La County has strengthened the protection and repair work of dukezong ancient city to reproduce the historical style of the ancient city. During the reign of Tang Yifeng and diaolu (676-679 A.D.), Tubo set up a fortress on the top of Dagui mountain, named "dukezong". A Tibetan pronunciation contains two meanings, one is "castle built on stone", the other is "Moonlight City". Later, the ancient city was built around the fortress on the top of the mountain. In response to this is the "niwangzong" built on the top of a mountain on the river Naizi, which is called "sunshine city". Its fortress has disappeared, and the original site is a white tower. Dukezong ancient city is built on the basis of mountains. The road surface is rugged. It was paved with some old stones on the natural terrain. For the caravan passing through the ancient tea horse road, dukezong ancient city is an important town on the ancient tea horse road, and also the first stop of the caravan after entering Tibet. It's quite a comfortable road. In 2001, dukezong ancient city was approved as a famous historical and cultural city in Yunnan Province.

The Cultural Industry Office of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture awarded the honorary plaque of "Diqing culture and tourism industry integration development demonstration base" for dukezonghua lane.

Historical evolution

It is said that the idea of building the city at that time was due to the living Buddha looking at the ancient city from the top of the hill opposite the ancient city and finding that Daguishan was like a lotus sitting on a lotus. Therefore, the layout of the ancient city was like a lotus with eight petals, forming a space changed by nature. In the construction of the ancient city, the building materials are mostly local materials. Craftsmen found that a kind of white clay produced locally can be used as the paint for the exterior walls of houses, so the exterior walls of ancient city houses are painted white, and this style has been used to this day. On a moonlit night, the silver moonlight makes the white ancient city enchanting, so the local people call it "dukezong". "Dukezong" in Tibetan means white stone city and moonlight city.

In his famous book The Forgotten Kingdom, Mr. gupeter, a Russian, describes that it is estimated that 8000 mules and 20000 yaks were used in the "horse Gang transportation" when all routes to China were blocked during the war.

Historical development

In Tang Dynasty, Northwest Yunnan (including Diqing area) was the place of Tubo Dynasty. In 676-679 of Tang Dynasty, Tubo set up Shenchuan dududufu in Weixi Qizong, and established GuanZhai in Daguishan today. The city was named "dukezong", which is the famous "Tieqiao east city" in history.

In the Ming Dynasty, Zhongdian was occupied twice by the chieftain mu of Lijiang. The chieftain Mu built "xianggewa" village and Tibetan Shishan village in Daguishan, which was the original "dukezong" village in Daguishan. Later, a village named "Danian Yuwa" was built on the Bank of the Naizi river. It was named "niwangzong" in Tibetan, which means sunshine city. The two villages echo each other from afar, forming the famous "xianggniwa" in Zhongdian history, namely the famous "Sun Moon City" in Tibetan area.

Dukezong ancient city has always been the thoroughfare of tea horse exchange among Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet. In 1688, the Dalai Lama asked for the exchange of tea horse in Jinsha River, and the Qing government approved the establishment of the city in Zhongdian. Dukezong became an important trade fair between Yunnan and Tibet. During the reign of Emperor Yongzheng and Emperor Qianlong, the mining industry flourished and merchants gathered all over the country.

During the Anti Japanese War, the Japanese occupied Myanmar and cut off the transportation between Yunnan and Myanmar. A large number of aid materials to China could only be transported from Lhasa to Kunming via Northwest Yunnan through the Himalayas. The county became a transit station for the trade among Yunnan, Tibet and India.

In addition, in 1936, he long led the second and sixth Red Army Corps of the Chinese workers' and peasants' Red Army through Zhongdian and set up a headquarters in the two rooms of the Sutra hall in dukezong ancient city, where an important meeting was held.

The restoration and reconstruction of dukezong ancient city, Shangri La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province has been basically completed and officially opened to the outside world on January 1, 2016.

Fire incident

At 1:27 a.m. on January 11, 2014, a fire broke out in dukezong ancient city, located in Shangri La County, the capital of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The 119 fire emergency center of Diqing fire brigade received the report, and a fire broke out in dukezong ancient city, Shangri La County. After that, Shangri La County immediately launched the fire emergency rescue plan, and more than 2000 people, including the fire department, the resident armed police, the people's Liberation Army, the local militia, cadres and the masses, participated in the mass evacuation and disaster relief in time.

As of 17:46 on January 11, 2014, the open fire in the ancient city has been put out, and the fire officers and soldiers are still searching for whether anyone is trapped, but the cause of the fire is unknown.

According to preliminary statistics, more than 100 houses were destroyed by the fire, which has caused economic losses of more than 100 million yuan.
