Why build the thunder god temple in Beichang street?
In the early years, the God of cloud, rain, wind and thunder unified in the temple of heaven to pray for the new year. Later, because of the frequent occurrence of wind, rain and lightning disasters in Beijing, the emperor decreed that the temples of wind, rain and Thunder God should be built in the imperial city. Where is the right place to build the thunder god temple? According to legend, the principal of the emperor for the following two reasons. First, thunderstorms in Beijing usually start in the northwest, accompanied by strong wind convection from northwest to Southeast. Since the thunder and lightning came from the northwest, the thunder temple was located in Beichang street in the northwest of the palace. Second, the ancients believed that beichangjie was the dragon vein of Beijing, where the thunder temple was built, and the dragon was the spirit. Dragon can make water, water can conquer inflammation. Zhu Guozhen of the Ming Dynasty wrote in his Yongchuang sketch: "when I pass the Xihua gate, my horse's feet just have a sound. Looking down, I can see that the stone bone is black. There are several Shizhang in the north and south. This real dragon passes through the vein."
In the early years, there was a small alley in the north of Leishen temple, which was called Jiadao of Leishen temple. Later, it was renamed Jiadao of Education Association.
In 1965, Fuyou temple, qingfengsi and Guanjia Hutong were merged into Beichang street.
