origin
More than ten years ago, Panjiayuan was not a well-known place in Beijing. In recent years, with the booming of Panjiayuan second-hand goods market, it has become a good place for collectors to "Taobao" and a famous collector of "Panjiayuan".
Panjiayuan is located in the southwest of Chaoyang, near Jinsong community. Before liberation, it was just a small village outside Beijing, which was called panjiayao at that time. In the early years, there were many brick kilns and tile yards on the east side of the moat. Pan Jia kiln was one of them. Because the kiln owner's surname was pan, the kiln was named after the kiln owner. It is said that the owner of the pan kiln was born in Jining, Shandong Province. He was over fifty years old and was originally born of firing glazed tiles. When he first came here, he wanted to open a kiln for firing glazed tiles, but after several times of firing, he stopped firing. Because the soil here was loose, it was not suitable for firing glazed tiles, so he fired small square bricks instead. At that time, there were seven or eight brick kilns in this area, and the competition between them was very fierce. Pan kiln owner came here for the first time, and he changed his career to brick burning, so his business was not good all the time. But he didn't want to give up, because he saw that it was close to the capital and the location was good. After a few days in private, he came back with an idea. First, he wanted to improve the quality of bricks. Second, he worked hard in business.
First of all, he strictly controlled the firing process of every brick, and never cut corners, so the fired brick has good quality, high finish, strong hardness, and is not easy to break. At the same time, he was better at selling bricks than others. At that time, he sold bricks in units of "Ding". One "Xiaoding" brick was 200 pieces, and one "Dading" brick was 800 pieces. But when he was grading bricks, one "Xiaoding" brick was 220 pieces, and one "Dading" brick was 850 pieces. At the same time, he hired three carriages. All the buyers who were within ten miles of the land would send bricks to the door free of charge. After several times of buying bricks from him, some buyers found that his bricks were not only of good quality, but also more in quantity than other kilns, and they could deliver them free of charge. So they often came to him to buy them. In less than a year, Pan's kiln became very popular, and soon became famous. Even people from a distance of one or two hundred miles came to buy Bricks from him. As a result, the pan family's kilns grew bigger and bigger. It is said that at most two or three hundred people worked here. The cars came in and went out, which was very busy. However, several other kilns were closed one after another because of poor management. Later, a village was formed near the Panjia kiln. According to the name of the kiln, it was named Panjia kiln.
In the late period of the Republic of China, the soil in this area was almost used up, leaving only a lot of big puddles and depressions. It was very difficult to get more soil to burn bricks, so panjiayao was temporarily closed, and soon moved to Fangshan area.
Since the 1960s, the water pits and depressions here have been gradually filled up, and residential areas have been built. Within a few years, a large residential area appeared, which is known as "panjiayao". However, it didn't take long for people to feel that it was not elegant. Because old Beijingers usually called brothels "Yaozi", they changed it to "Panjiayuan". The word "Yuan" means "Jiayuan", and they called the newly built road nearby Panjiayuan road. Later, when the third ring road was built, an overpass was built on the east side of Panjiayuan, which was named "Panjiayuan Bridge". Since 1992, a second-hand goods market has gradually formed here. In just a few years, it has developed into the largest distribution center of antiques and second-hand goods in China, attracting a large number of Taobao people and tourists. Nowadays, "Panjiayuan" is not only the name of a street or a region, but also the synonym of antique market.
