historical origin
In November 1939, the Jiangnan headquarters of the New Fourth Army was established in Shuixi village. Chen Yi and Su Yu, two proletarian revolutionaries, conscientiously implemented the Party Central Committee's strategic policy of "consolidating to the south, fighting to the East, and developing to the north". They worked out strategies, made a decisive battle, and opened up the Maoshan Anti Japanese base. The vast numbers of officers and soldiers of the New Fourth Army share the joys and sorrows with the local people. Every plant in Shuixi village has experienced the fierce battle with the Japanese aggressors, and the men, women and children of Shuixi village still enjoy talking about the romantic revolutionary love of Chen Yi and Zhang Xi.
In April 1982, the people's Government of Jiangsu Province announced the site as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit. In October of the same year, general Su Yu wrote an inscription for the former site of Jiangnan headquarters of the New Fourth Army.
