Tianfo Temple Grottoes

Tianfosi Grottoes is located in Dengshan village, Zhonglu Township, 50 kilometers south of the city. It is one of the early Grottoes in China.

brief introduction

Hundreds of square meters of murals are preserved in the cave. There are three layers of caves, 17 large and small niches, more than 100 Buddha statues, as well as precious cultural relics such as Han, Tibetan scriptures and silk paintings of the early Tang Dynasty in the Wei, Sui and Tang Dynasties. Among them, the Tathagata sitting statue in the main building is more than 30 meters high. On the left and right sides of the Buddha stand six statues, namely, kasyah, Ananda, Puxian, Manjusri, Guangmu and Tianwang, with vivid expression, different images and exquisite shape. Due to the construction of Huangyanghe reservoir, most of the Buddha statues, murals and scriptures were moved to the Provincial Museum for preservation. The statues, central pillars, niches and some murals of the Great Buddha in the cave are still precious historical relics.
