Modern buildings in Boxian Road

Boxian road modern building complex was announced as a municipal cultural relic protection unit by Zhenjiang municipal government in 1992. The main buildings are the former site of Jinshan Hotel, Jiangnan Hotel, Jiang Huairen clinic, Zhenjiang chamber of Commerce, Guangzhao office, Jiangsu Branch of hongwanzi Association, and the former site of the "British concession" industrial bureau.

Former site of Jinshan Hotel

Located at No.27, Boxian Road, western style building, two floors, four bays. Green brick masonry, decorated with red brick string edge, pattern, four slope water roof, each room is equipped with ticket door arch window. Founded in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, Ningbo association was once established here.

Former site of Jiangnan Hotel

It is located at 29 Boxian Road, built in 1927. It was originally the residence of Tu Jiahua, the director of the post acceptance Office of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces of the Kuomintang government. There are four rooms, the middle two rooms are four stories, and the two sides are three stories. They are made of green bricks and have a flat tile roof. On the side door, there is a stone gate named "shortcut" written by Yuan Laoyu of the Kuomintang. On the third floor of the street, there is a cantilevered balcony surrounded by iron bars, which is a combination of Chinese and Western architecture. There is a garden behind the building.

Former site of Jiang Huairen clinic

It's located at 35 Boxian road. Founded in 1907, it was the earliest private western medicine clinic in Zhenjiang. Three storey building, built near the mountain, mainly red brick brick, wood, stone mixed structure, more than 40. The central part of the building protrudes from the gatehouse, and all of them are carved with flower capitals, which makes it magnificent. The interior decoration is quite heavy, which imitates the European classical architectural form. It is said that Chiang Kai Shek and his son Chiang Ching Kuo stayed here when they came to Zhenjiang.

Former site of Zhenjiang chamber of Commerce

Located at 73 Boxian Road, it was the site of the Westernization Bureau, and was built in 1929. There are more than 70 houses, covering an area of 1891 square meters. There is a stone gate of "Zhenjiang chamber of Commerce" written by Yu Youren. The whole building is a combination of Chinese and Western forms. The old chamber of Commerce was founded in the reign of Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty. In dalongwang lane, it was first named Zhenjiang business office. Later, Zhenjiang was a big business port and changed to Zhenjiang chamber of Commerce. In the past, due to the benefits of the river, merchants gathered in Zhenjiang. There were more than 400 stores in Ximen alone. Merchants from 11 provinces built guildhalls, and more than 20 industries established public offices. The chamber of Commerce was the first. It was effective in developing commerce, promoting trade, and establishing social public welfare undertakings.

Former site of Guangzhao Office

It's located at 82 Boxian Road, facing west and East. There are more than 20 halls, main rooms, side rooms and wing rooms, covering an area of nearly 600 square meters, with high walls and deep courtyards. The stone banner of the front gate tower is engraved with the four characters of "Guangzhao public office", which is a book written by Chen Xuan, the former governor of Sichuan Province. The gate is covered and finely carved. It is decorated with three stars of fortune, fortune and longevity, as well as the customs of fishing, firewood, farming, reading, Qin, chess, calligraphy and painting. It is a traditional ancient architectural style. Facing the west of the inner hall, the gate is 12 meters wide, 3-9 meters deep and 4.5 meters high. In the south wing room in front of the hall, there is a wall stele named "guangzhaogongsuo", which describes the origin and reconstruction of guangzhaogongsuo. Now the main hall has been destroyed, and the rest are still alive.

The name of Guangzhao office is because the building was built by businessmen from Guangzhou and Zhaoqing, which is the place where businessmen from Guangzhou and Zhaoqing gather and negotiate business. The original site is beside Yunliang River, and the current site is rebuilt by Zhuo Yitang in 1907. In the early years of the Republic of China, after Sun Yat Sen resigned as the interim president, he traveled from Shanghai to Nanjing via Zhenjiang. He spent a night in the public office, where he summoned people from all walks of life to make a speech.

Former site of Jiangsu Branch of red Wanzi Association

In the capital, it belongs to local charities. It was built in 1923 and then expanded. The overall building is a combination of Chinese and western buildings, with 52 rooms, which are divided into two units: the East unit is a Chinese building, the brick gate, and the two corridor buildings inside, with a total of 32 rooms; the West unit is a four story western building, with spiral steps. At the top, there are two layers of wooden zanjianding and an octagonal pavilion. Founded in 1934, it was hosted by the leading figures of the chamber of Commerce. It is a charitable organization dedicated to the gods of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and other religions.

Former site of "British concession" Industrial Bureau

Located at 209 Changjiang Road, the Ministry of industry is the highest administrative body in charge of the concession. Three story building, brick wood structure, rectangular "concave" shape, 22 meters long, 11 meters wide, with the same architectural style as the British Consulate.

In addition to these modern buildings, there are also inland church, Baptist Church, the former site of Xinhua Daily, Zhenjiang old post and telecommunications office, Dingfu temple, Jia mansion and other buildings.
