Maintenance and transformation

In 2001, with the concern and support of Xiamen municipal Party committee and government, more than ten million yuan was invested in the renovation of Gulangyu concert hall, which was completed in April 2002. The reconstructed Gulangyu concert hall has elegant environment and unique architectural style, which is mainly composed of main building and subsidiary building. The main building mainly includes: front hall, Performance Hall (stage, Auditorium), VIP room, dressing room, piano room and sound light control room; ancillary facilities mainly include: piano room building, central air conditioning room, power distribution room, etc. The performance hall can accommodate 571 audiences. The hall is mainly decorated with wood materials and adopts the sound effect of all natural sound. Before the transformation, its acoustic effect has been praised by many famous musicians. When Shanghai Symphony Orchestra came here to perform in 1992, the famous conductor Chen Xieyang wrote in the message book: "the sound of Gulangyu concert hall is what we Chinese musicians most yearn for, and we are very proud of it.". After the transformation, the sound field effect in the test field has been improved on the basis of the original better, and has won the praise of many famous musicians. In addition, Gulangyu concert hall is equipped with more advanced sound and light control, live recording and other equipment; it has a seven foot German "Steinway" and a nine foot Italian "fizzioni" grand piano. There are nearly 10 piano rooms in the piano room building, each of which is equipped with piano and air conditioning, and can organize music training activities.

Achievement

After the renovation, Gulangyu Concert Hall successfully received the highest award of Chinese music, namely "the second Golden Bell award of Chinese music and Gulangyu (International) Piano Festival". The famous conductor Chen Zuohuang from Gulangyu came here from abroad to participate in the event and act as the conductor of the music team.
