Tan Kah Kee Memorial Resort
Located in Jimei District of Xiamen City, Tan Kah Kee Memorial resort is composed of Ao garden, former residence of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, exhibition hall of Tan Kah Kee's life story, return hall and return garden.
Tan Kah Kee
Chen Jiageng (1874-1961), a member of Jimei society in Tong'an County, Fujian Province (now Jimei District, Xiamen City), was a patriotic leader of overseas Chinese, a famous industrialist, educator, philanthropist and social activist. In his youth, Tan Kah Kee left his hometown to do business in Nanyang. He developed rubber planting industry, rubber industry and shipping industry, and became an accomplished industrialist. Since 1910, he supported and participated in the 1911 Revolution led and launched by Sun Yat Sen. He always cherished his motherland and his hometown, and successively founded Jimei school, Xiamen University and a series of world-famous universities. After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, Tan Kah Kee organized the South overseas Chinese Association and was elected chairman. He traveled everywhere, uniting the vast number of overseas Chinese in Nanyang, raising money for national salvation, collecting money everywhere, and organizing a large number of people to return home to support the Anti Japanese war. He supported the Communist Party of China, opposed decadent, dictatorial and traitorous regimes at home, opposed imperialist bullying and aggression at abroad, and safeguarded the independence, peace and reunification of the motherland. Mao Zedong praised Tan Kah Kee as "the banner of overseas Chinese and the glory of the nation.". Zhou Enlai spoke highly of Tan Kah Kee's lofty integrity of "making the best efforts for national liberation, suffering endless hardships for the unity and anti Japanese War, not being hurt by slander, not being powerful and unyielding". In September 1949, Tan Kah Kee was invited to attend the first plenary session of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference and was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference. He has successively served as a member of the Central People's government, chairman of the all China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and elected as the first and second standing committee of the National People's Congress and the second and third vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference. He returned to China in 1950, settled in Jimei, Xiamen, and continued to work for the socialist construction of the motherland. He proposed building Xiamen seawall, Yingxia railway, Xiamen textile factory, overseas Chinese Museum, and expanding Jimei and Xiamen University school buildings. He lives a simple life and teaches his children strictly. At the end of his life, he still remembered the reunification of the motherland and the return of Taiwan. He died in Beijing on August 12, 1961.
Tan Kah Kee Memorial Resort
It is composed of Aoyuan, former residence of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, exhibition hall of Tan Kah Kee's life story, return hall and return garden.
Aoyuan, composed of porch, Jimei Liberation Monument and Tan Jiageng tomb, is located in the southeast corner of Jimei street and the east end of Aoyuan road in Jimei District, surrounded by the sea on three sides. Aoyuan was originally a small isolated island in the sea. To the west of the island, there is a strip of sand extending to the land, which looks like a crawling turtle. Therefore, Aoyuan got its name. In 1950, after Tan Kah Kee returned home and settled down, he decided to build Aoyuan here, covering an area of about 9000 square meters. All the buildings in the park are made of granite. Pavilions, corridors, palisades and the surrounding walls are engraved with celebrity inscriptions or revolutionary history, historical stories, encyclopedia knowledge and other subjects. There are 653 relief, shadow carving, carving and so on. It is a pioneering work in the history of stone carving art in China. Jimei Liberation Monument, as the main building of Aoyuan, was built by Tan Jiageng to commemorate the people's Liberation Army who died bravely for the liberation of Jimei. The stele is 28 meters high, symbolizing the glorious course of the Communist Party of China leading the people of all ethnic groups to create new China after 28 years of hard work. The vigorous, natural and powerful "Jimei Liberation Monument" on the monument was inscribed by Mao Zedong on May 16, 1952. Tan Kah Kee's tomb, with its back to Jimei Liberation Monument and its face to the sea, was planned and designed by him. After the death of Tan Kah Kee on August 12, 1961, the coffin was transported back to Xiamen for burial.
Aoyuan was declared as a cultural relic protection unit of Xiamen City by Xiamen Municipal People's Government in March 1982, a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province by Fujian Provincial People's Government in August 1985, and a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council in January 1988.
Mr. Tan Kah Kee's former residence is located at 149 Kah Kee Road, Jimei street. It is a two-story Romanesque building with an area of more than 400 square meters. During the Anti Japanese War, it was bombed by Japanese invaders. In the early days of liberation, Tan Kah Kee ended his half century overseas life and returned to his hometown Jimei to settle down. The former residence was restored in 1955 and has remained its original appearance. The plaque on the outside wall of the corridor on the second floor of his former residence, Mr. Tan Kah Kee's former residence, was inscribed by Liao Chengzhi, former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. On the first floor of the former residence is the exhibition hall of Jimei school history, which shows the process and achievements of Mr. Tan Kah Kee in founding Jimei school and Xiamen University in the form of photos, charts and words. On the second floor are tan Kah Kee's work and life exhibition room, relics exhibition room, and his younger brother Chen Jingxian's exhibition room to assist his elder brother Chen Kah Kee in running schools and developing education.

Exhibition hall of Tan Kah Kee's life story
Located in the west side of Mr. Tan Kah Kee's former residence, built in 1983, it is a three storey building with a construction area of more than 700 square meters. The exhibition hall comprehensively and objectively shows the history of Tan Kah Kee's life in Nanyang, his arduous founding of industry, his concern for Sangzi, his investment in running schools and educating people, his participation in the revolution of 1911, his organization and support of the Anti Japanese movement, his return to build a new China and his participation in politics. In order to give full play to the value and function of the exhibition hall, the Xiamen Municipal People's government built the tan Kah Kee Memorial Hall at No. 8 Xunjiang Road, Jimei street in October 2003 according to the national secondary Museum standard, and officially opened it in October 2008. The tan Kah Kee Memorial Hall and its supporting cultural square cover an area of 104484 square meters and a building area of 11000.5 square meters. Based on more than 350 pictures, more than 310 cultural relics and objects, the museum is divided into four exhibition halls to introduce the glorious life of Tan Kah kee. The first exhibition hall is about "the life of Tan Kah Kee"; the second exhibition hall is about "investing in education and caring for the country"; the third exhibition hall is about "saving the country and the light of the nation"; and the fourth exhibition hall is about "around Tan Kah Kee - the phenomenon of Kah Kee and going with him sincerely". The exhibition hall of Tan Kah Kee's life story (including the former residence of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, the exhibition hall of Tan Kah Kee's life story, Aoyuan, Huihui hall and Huihui garden, etc.) was announced as the patriotic education base of Fujian Province by Fujian provincial Party committee and Fujian Provincial People's Government in August 1995, Xiamen municipal Party committee and Xiamen Municipal People's Government in January 1996, and Xiamen patriotic education base in June 1997 The Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee announced it as a national patriotic education demonstration base.
Return Garden
Located at No.1 Shangnan Road, Jimei street, Jimei District, covering a total area of 2650 square meters, it is composed of two parts: return hall and Tan Kah Kee Statue Garden. Built in 1962, the hall of return was built according to the wishes of Tan Kah Kee and the instructions of Premier Zhou Enlai. It symbolizes the love of overseas Chinese for not forgetting their homeland, returning to the motherland and reuniting with their children. The main building, facing west from East, is composed of hall, patio, worship hall, main hall and two side houses, covering an area of 1273 square meters. In the main hall, there are statues of Tan Kah Kee sitting in blue stone. The statue park of Tan Kah Kee was built in 1984. It is made of copper by Pan he, a famous sculptor. It is 2.3 meters high and weighs 1 ton. Behind the statue is a screen wall, on which is engraved Chairman Mao Zedong's high praise of Tan Kah Kee: "the flag of overseas Chinese, national glory".
In July 2001, the park was declared as a cultural relic protection unit of Jimei District by the people's Government of Jimei District.
Educational significance
Tan Kah Kee Memorial resort has rich and unique popular science education resources: the "combination of Chinese and Western" architectural culture of the memorial resort is rich and unique; the "honorary stele of respecting teachers and education" and "Taoli Fangfei" sculptures of the park have profound ideas and profound implications; the "historical allusions", "folk culture", "natural landscape and cultural landscape" of Aoyuan, which is called "Museum of stone carving"“ The exquisite stone carvings, such as popular science knowledge and daily behavior norms, are vivid and profound; the "relics of Mr. Tan Kah Kee" and "pictures of Mr. Chen Kah Kee's life and deeds" displayed in Mr. Tan's former residence and memorial hall fully show Mr. Tan's love for science, respect for teachers and education, and attach importance to popular science.
In October 1996, Tan Kah Kee Memorial resort was announced as the national patriotism education base for primary and secondary schools by the State Education Commission and the Ministry of civil affairs. In November 2007, it was announced as the national defense education base of Fujian Province by the Fujian Provincial People's government. In May 2010, it was announced as the national clean government education base by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Ministry of supervision.
