Fen-yuan-shiang

Fenyuan township is located in the east of Changhua County, Taiwan, on the east slope of Bagua platform. Although the township belongs to Zhanghua County in administrative area, due to the barrier of Bagua platform, the geographical and living relationship between Fenyuan Township and Taichung City and Nantou County is relatively close. The name "Fen yuan" originated from the large-scale cultivation of opium poppy tobacco by local residents. Tobacco was called "Fen" or "Xun" in Minnan dialect. At that time, it was named "Fen yuan" after its near sound "Fen".

Fenyuan township is located in the south of Zhanghua and the north of Nantou, adjacent to Caotun town of Nanxian county and Wuri District of Taichung City in the East, Yuanlin Town, Dacun Township and Huatan Township in the west, Nantou city in the South and Zhanghua city in the north.

With a population of only 26000, Fenyuan Township, whose hillside area accounts for 41% of the total area of the township, is located on the east side of Changhua County, that is, on the east slope of Bagua terrace. In terms of local administrative organization, Fenyuan Township belongs to Changhua County. However, the natural topography is that the Bagua platform uplifted on the western coast separates Fenyuan Township from other towns in Changhua County and has two different geographical spaces. From the perspective of geographical location, Fenyuan township is connected with Wuri District of Taichung City, Nantou city of Nantou County and Caotun town of Nantou County. They have relatively close relationship of geography, emotion and consumption.

Historical evolution

It is said that in the Qing Dynasty, some people planted tobacco here, so it was called "Fen yuan". It was first called "Fen yuan Xinzhuang". However, the Tobacco Planted at that time may not be the tobacco that ordinary people often smoke, but opium, that is, opium poppy. When did the name "Fen yuan" come from? According to Mr. Hong minlin's textual research, it is pointed out that "during the reign of Daoguang, there was no Fen garden gathering, and the place name should have happened later. In 1884, the battle of legal person in Guangxu ten years, the ports were forbidden in North and south, the merchant ships were forbidden, and the elegant crows were not available. The place name of Fenyuan should have happened at this time. "Therefore, the name of" Fenyuan "should have been in the past 110 years.

There are 15 villages in Fenyuan township. The township governance is located in Shekou village, and the rest are jiushe village, Dapu village, Zhulin village, Fengkeng village, qiabei village, Jiaxing village, Fenyuan village, Jinfen village, Xianzhuang village, Zhenfei village, Xitou village, Tong'an village, Zhonglun village and Dazhu village from North to south. The area of jiushe village is the largest and that of Shekou village is the smallest.
