Introduction to architecture
Nanhai temple is composed of three parts: memorial archway, entrance road, Baisheng memorial hall, relic tower and temple. The whole structure is rigorous, the idea is wonderful and the momentum is magnificent. It is the most famous temple in Asia.
Nanhai temple gate: it is 3L meters high and 50 meters long. On the top of the archway, there are four characters of "Nanhai Temple" inscribed by Zhao Puchu, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference and honorary president of the Buddhist Association. The archway of the mountain gate faces north from the south. There are two side doors on each side of the main door. Both the main door and the top of the side door are carved with two dragons playing with pearls.
After entering the gate, there is a corridor 500 meters long and 20 meters wide. From north to south, there are 12 granite archways on the corridor. Each archway is exquisitely carved with twelve marriages, twelve zodiac signs and twelve Bodhisattvas. Every visitor here can find his own sign and birthday.
In the northeast of the temple, the white sage elder relic tower was built for master Mingcheng's teacher. The layout of the whole pagoda courtyard is proper and well arranged, especially the relic pagoda carved in granite for the elder Baisheng. It integrates the ancient architectural art of our country with the modern tower building style of Southeast Asia. It is tall, majestic and elegant.
The main building of Nanhai temple, Daxiong Hall: This hall is 2 meters high, its plane is 80 meters square, triple eaves, solemn and majestic. Xumizuo under the pillars of the hall is all carved out of granite. There are eight immortals carved on Langfang, which is vivid. There are 500 Arhats of granite and rock carved on the platform base. The hall has become the crown of the palace of China for its magnificence.
Next to the main hall, there are four auxiliary halls: Guanyin, Tianwang, Manjusri and Puxian. Especially Guanyin hall is the most spectacular. Inside the hall, there is a 12 meter high thousand handed Avalokitesvara, with murals on all four walls. The paintings are: the fairyland of the South China Sea, Avalokitesvara's journey to the South China Sea, becoming a monk beyond the city, and the birth of the prince. The other three halls have their own characteristics. The hall of Nanhai Buddhist temple is marvelous and magnificent, which can be compared with the similar buildings in the Buddhist holy land in China and even in Asia.
The Sutra collection building in the temple is unique in design and beautiful in architecture. In particular, there are many versions of Buddhist scriptures in the building.
In the west of Nanhai temple, Runan County, in order to express its reward for master Mingcheng's restoration of Nanhai temple in Shanwei, specially built Kaishan hall for master Mingcheng, which is simple, elegant and unique.
