Brief introduction to temples
Blissful temple is located at the foot of Baihe mountain in Penang, northwest of Malaysia. Penang, also known as Penang and Penang, is one of the 13 federal states in Malaysia. Penang is nearly 400 kilometers away from Kuala Lumpur.
The temple combines three different architectural styles of China, Thailand and Myanmar. There are many colorful buildings in the temple. Both local Chinese and tourists are happy to visit.
Construction history
Blissful temple was built in 1889 by miaolinian, abbot of Yongquan temple in Gushan, Fuzhou, and served as the courtyard of Yongquan temple
Miaolin, born in Ninghua, Fujian Province, is a scholar with a common surname of Feng and his father's name of Shutai. Miao Lian, a young man, was taken by her father to become a monk in Yongquan temple in Fuzhou, where she worshipped Zen master Qi Liang as her teacher. In 1884, Miaolin was chosen as the abbot of Yongquan temple. The next year, Miaolin went abroad to promote Buddhism. In 1887, he went to Guangfu palace, the abbot of Penang Island.
In 1889, Miaolin bought about 3.65 hectares of land from Yang xiumiao, an overseas Chinese from Fujian Province, and built a hall of great scholars, called the blissful temple.
Couplets in the temple
The temple is located on the hillside of yayidan mountain. It is also called "Heshan" because the mountain is like a white crane spreading its wings. No wonder on the gate of the temple, there is a couplet inlaid with the word "Heshan": standing tall in the clouds, it can be far away from the customs, and the mountains live abroad, so it is a good Zen.
Layout structure
Miaolin's painstaking management has deeply moved people. Five years after the temple was built, famous overseas Chinese such as Zhang Bishi, Zhang Yunan, Xie Rongguang, Zheng Siwen and Dai Xinran started to expand the temple. Miaolin also stepped up fund-raising efforts in Nanyang. After several years of hard work, the temple of heavenly king, the hall of Mahavira, the hall of Dharma, the Sutra collection building, the Xiangji cupboard, the bell tower, the drum tower, the release pool and the flower dock have been built, which is magnificent. Today, the temple of bliss, which is located on the edge of the mountain and has an extraordinary style, covers an area of 12 hectares.
There is a stone tablet in the temple, which says: "in the west of Penang Island, there is the white crane mountain. The waterfall is full of clouds. It is named after the mountain peaks. It is just the blissful temple. In the past, the local customs were so common that the mountains were hidden and the Qi was attached to the English. " This shows the hardships of establishing the blissful temple. The stele said: "pines, pines and osmanthus verandas, come out of the sky, green Pavilion and Danti, and there is no land under them. There are thousands of grasses and fragrant flowers."
After the development of monks, it has finally changed its former appearance and become a famous scenic spot.
Celebrity allusions
In 1904, miaolinian, a Buddhist monk who came back to China, went to Beijing to meet Emperor Guangxu. He invited the emperor to give him two volumes of sutras, one of which was collected in the Sutra collection building of the blissful temple. Emperor Guangxu also granted the vestments and plaques such as "returning to the mountain according to orders". In the temple, there are also plaques inscribed by Empress Dowager Cixi and Emperor Guangxu, which show that the Qing government paid great attention to the temple.
In 1903, Kang Youwei also inscribed a plaque for the blissful temple, with four words of "do not forget to save the country". Miaolin returned to China in 1906, and died the next year. The ashes were buried in two places: the blissful temple and Gushan Yongquan temple. There was a release pool on the side of the "Da Shi hall" where Guanyin was worshipped. The pool was divided into two levels: the upper one was a fish pool and the lower one was a turtle pool. There are hundreds of turtles in the turtle pond.
On a huge stone beside the road, Zhang Taiyan, a Chinese democratic revolutionist, thinker and scholar, praised the temple "In the autumn of the fifth year of the Republic of China, I traveled southward from Zhaoqing to Penang Island and passed the blissful temple. I saw the master of the temple, Zen master Ben Zhong, who was the only one in Nanyang. The small multiplication of Nanhua was not prosperous, but the Mahayana (that is, the great multiplication) was only known by my scholar Mi Chu. I like the orthodox religion, so I thought it was my ambition." Benzhong, a 25-year-old monk from Nanping, Fujian Province, is a disciple of Miaolin. He was the abbot of Yongquan temple in Gushan and the second abbot of lijile temple. He was proficient in Buddhist scriptures and had extraordinary talent. He passed away in 1935 at the Jile temple for six years.
tourist guide
There is a mountain spring with a large amount of water gushing out in the blissful temple. The monks put on wooden wheels to make the spring water. The wooden wheel rotates and automatically strikes the bell day and night. This is similar to the installation of "water ringing bell" in Shuiyan Guanyin Pavilion of Yongquan temple in Gushan, Fuzhou, which makes people interested.
In the temple of heavenly king dedicated to Maitreya Buddha, the "four great vajras" on the side are sculptured by Fujian famous craftsmen. In another hall, there is a pair of couplets written by Li Songnian of Zhili Prefecture in Fujian Province in 1898: looking for the holy mountain on the sea, in a moment, the fanyulin palace and the palace were in the same place; in the middle of Fujian Province, this cup has been used for 20 years to meditate on the Magic Lotus.
Guangxu plaque
The main hall inscribed with a plaque by Emperor Guangxu is the center of the blissful temple, where Sakyamuni and his two great disciples, venerable JIAYE and venerable Ananda, are worshipped. There are also many buildings in the temple, such as the hall dedicated to Kaishan abbot Miaolin and Jiutian Xuannv hall. There is also a "taoguang Pavilion", in which Luo Hongxian, the number one scholar in the sixth year of Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1527), wrote the song of awakening the world. The content of the poem is simple and profound, and people scramble to read it. They often nod their heads. There is a lot of philosophy between the lines.
According to the custom, when a Chinese family of Fujian nationality dies, they will invite monks to "do seven" chants in the temple. Only by doing so can the dead soul understand the words of Fujian monks. The reward of "do seven" is quite large. In addition to the incense candle, sesame oil money, donation, vowing and some temple industries, the money is remitted to China. It has played a great role in the construction of Yongquan temple, the printing of Buddhist scriptures, the development of philanthropy and the improvement of monks' life.
On the left back hill platform of the temple stands a ten thousand Buddha pagoda about 30 meters high. The tower is divided into seven floors. Its design focuses on the cultural styles of China, Thailand and Myanmar. The lower two floors are typical Chinese octagonal palace buildings with flying eaves and tiles, decorated with Teng Long Xiang Feng and glazed tile scales, which twinkle in the sun; the middle three floors are in the color of an ancient Thai Temple, with a convex concave floating and overlapping square structure, and each concave arch cave is carved with a Buddha statue; the top two floors are completely Myanmar style tower design, which has 18 Arch Caves, Above is the yellow round top of the tower, with several flat spheres on top, and a cone at the top.
The ten thousand Buddha pagoda, which started construction in 1915 and was completed in 1927, is a unique architectural wonder in the world. I enter the pagoda, the ground floor is dedicated to the Buddha of Pilu, and the walls are covered with white tiles printed with Buddha statues; on the second floor, there are seven Buddha statues, or sitting or standing, of which four are carved in marble, very precious, and the walls are specially made with gold relief Buddha statues; on the third floor, there are three Buddha statues in the pagoda There are many porcelain and bronze relief Buddha statues on the wall and five Buddha statues outside the tower; on the fourth floor, there is a marble Reclining Buddha with countless white porcelain relief Buddha statues on the wall; on the fifth floor, there are three marble Reclining Buddha statues; on the sixth floor, there is a bell reclining Buddha with Bell relief Buddha statues on the wall and five Buddha statues outside the tower; on the seventh floor, there are three marble Reclining Buddha statues with porcelain seals on the wall Brush the Buddha.
Climbing on the top of the tower and looking up, you can see the scenery of Penang. The ten thousand Buddha pagoda was once called the Mitha pagoda. On the right of the pagoda, there is a pair of couplets without name. It is thought-provoking: "all living beings are in the eye, and all Buddhas bow their heads." A large-scale Guanyin statue is carved on a hill not far from the tower. It is more than 10 meters high and has beautiful posture. Many tourists come forward to take photos as a souvenir. In addition, there are ponds, turtle ponds and gardens. On the hillside behind the blissful temple stands a huge statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva, as if overlooking all things in the world.
