Zizhulin

Purple bamboo forest is a scenic spot under the meitanling mountain in the south of Putuo Mountain, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province. Because the rock in the mountain is purplish red, we can see the cypress leaves and bamboo leaf like patterns in the section. It is called zizhushi, and later generations planted Zizhu here.

Purple bamboo forest mainly includes "refuse to go to guanyinyuan", chaoyindong, purple bamboo forest, guangmingchi and other scenic spots, Guanyinting in the South and Luojiashan island in the opposite bank.

Historical origin

According to the records of mountain records, Huie, a Japanese monk, came back from Mount Wutai in the second year of emperor Zhenming's reign (916 A.D.), and his boat was blocked by the ocean of Putuo. Thinking that the Bodhisattva didn't want to go to the East, he pulled in and left the Buddha statue, which was worshipped by the residents surnamed Zhang. It was called "refusing to go to guanyinyuan", which was the beginning of opening the mountain for Putuo.

Folklore

It is said that on Mount Putuo, there was a snake king who led his descendants to take control of the mountain. There was a tendency that "I opened this mountain and planted this tree." no one dared to invade its territory. Once Guanyin Bodhisattva became an old bhikkhu and came to the snake king to borrow the mountain to open the way for all beings in the world of Suva. The snake king insisted on not protecting his rights and interests.

It said, "this is the base of the cause of my sons and grandchildren. How can I lend you a monk's way to spend all living beings?" Seeing that the snake king was unreasonable, the Bodhisattva said impolitely, "what can you do to boldly refuse me?" When the snake king saw the Bodhisattva and asked him what skills he had, he said, "I can show my true shape and circle the mountain three times."

The Bodhisattva said with a smile and disbelief, "if you can really turn around three times, I won't borrow the mountain from you. If you don't have the ability, you can't go around the mountain three times, what would you say then?" The snake king said with emotion, "I'm used to this. Is there any reason why I can't? If I can't get around, I'll lend you the mountain to open the way! " The Bodhisattva said, "it's a deal. Don't break your promise."

The snake king straightened up his chest and said, "if you say a word, it's hard to catch it." After that, it turned out to be a thousand year old python, thick and long, and slowly began to encircle the mountain. The Bodhisattva also used the magic power to enlarge the mountain slowly. The snake king encircled the mountain, and the Bodhisattva's mountain was also released. As a result, the snake's head and tail could not be connected.

Seeing that the snake king was helpless, the Bodhisattva said to him with a smile, "now you can't go around three turns. What else can you say? It's time to open the way with me! " The snake king said helplessly, "I don't know what luck I've had today. Every time I can circle three times, why can't I circle today? I can lend it to you, but you can show me some magic power to make me admit defeat! " The Bodhisattva said, "that's easy! With a finger in my hand, the purple bamboo can be seen on a stone on the ground right away! " Then he pointed with his hand, and suddenly countless purple bamboos appeared on the white stone, which is said to be the purple bamboos. Later, many men and women who made pilgrimage to the mountain carried small purple bamboo stones back as souvenirs. This is the origin and origin of the purple bamboo forest in Putuo Mountain.
