Tsinghua University Art Museum

The Art Museum of Tsinghua University, which embodies the wishes of generations of Tsinghua people, was completed in 2016 and will be officially opened to the public in September. At present, the museum has a collection of more than 13000 components, including calligraphy and painting, embroidery, ceramics, furniture, bronzes and comprehensive works of art. The vast majority of the collection comes from the collection of the Academy of fine arts since 1956, as well as donations from alumni and social celebrities.

In order to further promote the development of art discipline, strengthen the intersection and integration between art discipline and science, engineering, humanities and other disciplines, create a good culture and art atmosphere, gather all kinds of high-quality humanities and art resources to serve the cultivation of innovative talents, through the discussion and approval of the 9th Academic Conference of Tsinghua University from 2013 to 2014, it is decided to establish Tsinghua University Art Museum with English name of Tsinghu A university art museum, abbreviated as TAM.

Tsinghua University Art Museum is located on the campus of Tsinghua University, on the north side of the art academy building, on the south side of the chemical TV University building, on the east side of the main building, and on the west side of Caijing East Road. The museum is jointly designed by the Chinese Academy of Architectural Sciences and Mario Botta architects. Building area: 29912 square meters, aboveground: 20135 square meters, underground: 9777 square meters, civil air defense area: 5283 square meters; floor area: 7815 square meters; building height: 25.331 meters (eaves height).

Since June 17, 2020, the Art Museum of Tsinghua University has been temporarily closed. According to the relevant prevention and control requirements of Beijing and Tsinghua University, the Museum of art of Tsinghua University will suspend the reception of campus visitors, and the opening hours will be announced separately.

On January 16, 2013, Mr. Huang Rulun of century Jinyuan Group donated money to Tsinghua University to support the construction of the art museum. The donation ceremony was held in the I-shaped hall. Chen Jining, President of Tsinghua University, Cheng Jianping, vice president and chairman of the education foundation, and Mr. Huang Rulun jointly signed the donation agreement.

The art museum, which broke ground opposite the Academy of fine arts of Tsinghua University, has been soliciting architectural plans from all walks of life since 2002. It was finally decided that Mario Botta, a famous Swiss architect, will be responsible for the design. Tsinghua museum is also his first design work in China. After completion, the Tsinghua art museum will cover an area of 15891 square meters, with a construction area of 30000 square meters. It will be symmetrically arranged with the new main building of the new Tsinghua School as the midpoint.

"This will be a world-class art museum.". According to the person in charge of Tsinghua University, more than 2000 pieces of "Tsinghua bamboo slips" collected in 2008 will become the treasures of the museum. In addition, the oracle bone inscriptions discovered by Wang Guowei, the wooden tower components purchased by Liang Sicheng and Lin Hui for the protection of the building, the national emblem designed by Zhang Ding, the design sketch of China Pavilion of World Expo, Nezha naohai, etc. will also be collected in the museum, and will be submitted to the museum The society is open.

On April 8, 2015, the appointment ceremony of the first curator of Tsinghua University Art Museum was held in the Academy of fine arts. Feng Yuan, vice chairman of the China Federation of literary and art circles, deputy director of the Central Museum of culture and history, vice chairman of the China Artists Association, and honorary president of the Academy of fine arts of Tsinghua University, became the first director of the Art Museum of Tsinghua University.

On the evening of September 10, 2016, the opening ceremony of Tsinghua University Art Museum officially welcomed the first batch of guests. Yang Zhenning, a Nobel laureate and professor of Tsinghua University, took his wife Weng fan and other senior professors to watch the exhibition. Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua University, expressed the hope that the art museum will take "highlighting the humanities, gathering art, conserving new styles and cultivating talents" as its own responsibility, adhere to the integration of Chinese and Western culture, the integration of ancient and modern culture and the infiltration of Arts and Sciences, and make unremitting efforts to build the art museum into a world-class university museum.

In April 2020, it will be selected into the list of the first batch of new era civilization practice bases in Beijing.
