history
There are many names of Tulou temple in history. In the Han Dynasty, Deng Xun, a famous local official in Hehuang, built a "Temple of sages" in Beishan, which was first called "tuloushan Temple",
In the Ming Dynasty, the name of Yongxing temple came into being because of the name given by Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty. Because of the layer after layer, clear-cut, like a Tulou, it is known as "Tulou mountain". Li Daoyuan TAE, a traveler of the Northern Wei Dynasty, trekked to Xining and boarded Tulou mountain. In his notes to the water classic, he wrote: "the Huangshui River flows eastward, passing Tulou to the south, with Tulou on the top and the mountain to the north. The peak is more than three hundred feet high, if you cut it into a stone. " Tulou has Taoist temple, so it is called "Tulou Temple". Beishan Mountain is like a chick Phoenix trying to fly, while Tulou mountain is like the wings of a chick Phoenix. From then on, another nickname has been added, which is called "Fengyi mountain".
In 231 (the fifth year of Weiming emperor Taihe), Buddhism prevailed in Shanzhou (Xining). Some believers made niches between the broken rocks of Tulou mountain, painted caisson paintings, carved walls, built Temple pavilions and plank roads, and worshipped by believers on mountaineering. It was at the end of Qing Dynasty that Taoism entered Tulou mountain. Around 231 (the fifth year of Weiming emperor Taihe), Hou Liang Lu Guang occupied Wuwei and Hexi Corridor, and the north silk road was blocked. Some monks went to India from Lanzhou to Ledu, Xining via Beichuan and Daban mountain, and then Buddhism prevailed in Hehuang area.
Architecture
Tulou temple is built according to the special Danxia landform. There are almost all horizontal purplish red sandstones and conglomerates with gypsum and mirabilite layers. The lithology is soft and hard. Under the action of flowing water and weathering in the long-term geological period, Danxia landform characterized by red cliff, caves and dangerous peaks has been developed. The soft rock strata are concave inward to form caves of different sizes. The local people call them "nine caves and eighteen caves", in which there are statues of jade emperor, GuanShiYin, Manjusri, Puxian, Guan Yunchang and other gods and Buddhas. The images of gods, flowers, landscapes and moons painted on the walls of the cave have the artistic style of Han and Tibetan Buddhism painting, and once had the reputation of "Xiping Mogao Grottoes". The hard rock strata protrude outwards like eaves. Temples and halls are built on them, and the halls are suspended. The trestle corridor connects the halls and pavilions with the cave group, so that there are holes in the hall, and there are holes in the cave, and there are Buddhas in the cave. The trestle corridor is close to the cliff, or even suspended in the air.
On the east side of Tulou temple, there is a huge Buddha statue with a height of tens of meters, called "open-air King Kong". The local people call it "flash Buddha". The head, body, lower limbs and facial features can be seen clearly from a distance. It is vigorous and rugged, with the artistic style of the Tang Dynasty. It is carved by the majority of believers on the basis of the original landform, making the perfect combination of natural landscape and cultural landscape.
The architecture of Tulou Temple includes Mountain Gate, hillside archway, Kuixing Pavilion, luzu hall, Doumu hall, three churches, Wuliang hall, Funing building, Sanbao hall, spirit palace, etc. Dian Zi Pavilion is built according to the mountain situation, which is particularly spectacular.
At the top of the north mountain is the ningshou pagoda. When it is misty and rainy, the mountain is hidden in the fog, and the sky is vast. When you look at the temples in the clouds from a distance, the dongqunta temple is hidden from time to time. Just as the ancient poem says, "the trees in the North Mountain are indistinct, and the misty rain enters the painting in the morning", "how many buildings are covered by the clouds and trees, and the natural painting of the village of michia". "Beishan Yanyu" got its name from this.
