Colorful desert

After the confluence of the three rivers, namely, jiemayang zongqu, Kubi Zangbu and Mayoumu Zangbu, near sangmuzhang in Zhongba County, the reach reaches reach Lizi, with a total length of 161 km, a drop of 105 m and an average slope of 0.54 ‰, forming sangmuzhang lakchang basin, lagjia basin, guisang gangjiu basin, tunjiuchang narrow valley, chaiqu basin and Zhongba basin, forming a Pearl River Valley. The basin is 10-18 kilometers wide and tens of kilometers long. The bottom of the basin is wide and flat, with tributaries such as Rongjiu Zangbu and chaiqu converging on both sides, forming a broad proluvial plain in front of the mountain. In the basin, tributaries crisscross, river channels are mostly branched, meandering and wetlands, and small lakes are scattered all over the basin. The colorful desert is distributed in the plateau lake basin area, with an average altitude of more than 4500 meters.

On the way from Zhongba county to payang Town, there are some crescent shaped sand dunes on both sides of sangmuzhang reach beside 219 national road of Xinzang highway, which is the colorful desert. It is one of the prominent landscapes in the upper reaches of Yarlung Zangbo River. The formation of the multicolored desert is due to the red rocks of the mountain, the cold and cold weather, the frost on the surface of the sand dunes, the blue sky, and the warm and cold colors when the sun rises in the morning.
