The site is located in qinggangpo village, Tucheng Town, Xishui County, Guizhou Province, about 5 kilometers northeast of Tucheng town. It is said that it is named after Qinggang trees growing all over the mountain. The surrounding mountains, rocks and soil are all red. Villagers said that it was the blood of the Red Army. Tucheng battle, with qinggangpo battle as the core, was the first battle under Mao Zedong's personal command after the Zunyi Meeting and the direct factor for the victory of the Red Army's four crossing Chishui campaign.
The 19.35-meter-high monument to the Red Army martyrs was built on the top of qinggangpo mountain. The monument was inscribed by Zhang Zhen, former vice chairman of the Central Military Commission. 2000 Red Army officers and soldiers died here. The Red Army soldiers buried in this tomb are the most in Guizhou Province.
