In 1903, the Qing government set up the medical industrial museum in the Capital University. In 1904, the medical industrial museum was renamed the Medical Museum and moved to the octagonal liulijing outside the peace gate in Beijing, which was rebuilt from the temple of Xingsheng temple. It was closed in 1907. In 1910, the museum was bought by the General Administration of Medicine (then the Department of Health), which provided conditions for the establishment of the National Beijing Medical School in the future.
In 1911, the revolution of 1911 overthrew the Qing Dynasty and established the Republic of China. Under the trend of Chinese intellectuals learning from the west, the status of Western medicine in China changed significantly. A group of medical educators who came back from studying abroad are determined to enhance the people's physique through the development of medical career, so as to wash away the humiliation of "sick man of East Asia" who has been on the head of China for a long time.
In September 1912, the Ministry of education of the Republic of China called on Tang Erhe, a native of Hangzhou, who had returned from studying in Japan and was preparing to build a Zhejiang provincial medical school, to Beijing to plan the establishment of a medical school. The Ministry of education purchased the closed medical school for 10000 liang of silver and allocated it to the National Beijing Medical School. On October 16, the Ministry of education of the Republic of China appointed Mr. Tang Erhe, Professor of histology, as the president of Beijing Medical College and awarded the school seal on October 26. So far, China's first National School of Western medicine was officially born. At that time, there were 9 teaching staff and 72 students in the first batch. At the opening ceremony, Tang Erhe defined the purpose of running the school as "promoting social culture, promoting civilization, reducing people's suffering, and competing with the great powers with academics". In the year after the establishment of the school, according to the needs of medical education and the national conditions of China, Tang Erhe formulated the "Regulations on anatomy" of China, which was submitted to the Ministry of education for promulgation many times. In November 1913, it was approved for promulgation, which was the first anatomical decree in China.
In February 1915, the school clinic officially opened. In September 1923, the National Beijing Medical School was transformed into the National Beijing Medical University, and for the first time, the length of schooling for medical students was set at six years.
In August 1927, Beijing Medical University and all the national colleges and universities in Beijing were reorganized and merged to form the National Beijing Normal University, which became a branch of Beijing Normal University and was renamed the National Beijing Normal University Medical School. In the same year, the clinic attached to the school was expanded into a hospital affiliated to the school.
In November 1928, Peking University was reorganized into the National Peking University, and the medical school was changed into the medical college, which became the Medical College of Peking University. In January 1938, the Ministry of education of the puppet provisional government merged the former Peking University and Peking University to set up the "National Peking University", and the medical college was one of the six colleges under it. In May, classes resumed and teachers and students from Yanjing University and Peking Union Medical College continued to teach in the college.
In December 1945, the public universities in Beijing were unified as the "buxiban of Beiping temporary University", and the medical school of Beiping University was unified as the "sixth branch of buxiban of Beiping temporary University".
In July 1946, Peking University returned to Peking University. In 1952, the departments of higher education in China were adjusted. Peking University Medical College was separated from Peking University and established independently, and changed its name to Beijing Medical College. Directly under the leadership of the central Ministry of health, the funds for running the school shall be transferred from the central Ministry of finance to the central Ministry of health.
