Shandong University (Weihai)
Shandong University (Weihai), founded in 1984, is located in the beautiful Bincheng city of Weihai. It is a multi-disciplinary, open and comprehensive national key university campus jointly built by Shandong University and Weihai municipal government. It is one of the longest university campuses in the world along the coast of Shanghai. The birth of Weihai creates a precedent for Chinese famous universities to run schools in other places. After the completion of their studies, Shandong University will issue a unified diploma. At the same time, more than 11% of the fresh graduates are recommended to the national "211 Project" and "985 Project" universities and national scientific research institutes for postgraduate study.
As of May 2018, the University covers an area of more than 1600 mu, with a collection of 1.53 million books in Chinese and foreign languages, 2.5 million e-books and more than 200 databases of various electronic literature in Chinese and foreign languages; it has 11 colleges and 1 teaching department, 46 undergraduate majors, covering eight disciplines of literature, art, law, economics, management, science, engineering and medicine, and can recruit masters in 25 first-class disciplines Postgraduate, 20 first-class disciplines to recruit doctoral students, while 17 first-class disciplines to recruit postdoctoral students. At present, there are more than 14800 full-time undergraduates, more than 1000 international students, more than 1100 doctoral and postgraduate students, and more than 1200 teaching staff, including 387 professors and associate professors, and 477 doctoral and postgraduate supervisors
Historical evolution
On November 1, 1984, Shandong University and Weihai Municipal People's government signed the agreement on the establishment of Weihai Branch of Shandong University, and agreed to establish Weihai Branch of Shandong University in Weihai City.
On November 16, 1984, the Ministry of Education issued document (84) JJZ No. 333 "reply on the establishment of Weihai Branch of Shandong University", which agreed that Shandong University and Weihai Municipal People's government should jointly establish Weihai Branch of Shandong University in Weihai.
On September 28, 1987, Weihai Branch of Shandong University held a grand opening ceremony for the first freshmen in front of the newly completed literature building.
In July 1991, the "es series power grid dispatching automation system" of Weihai Branch of Shandong University won the "first prize of science and technology progress of National Education Commission".
On September 4, 1992, Weihai Branch of Shandong University and Fuchuan University of Korea formed a sister school.
On October 4, 1992, Weihai Branch of Shandong University added the brand of "Weihai University".
In May 1993, Shandong University agreed to seal the graduation certificate of Weihai Branch with the seal of Shandong University and president.
On April 16, 1997, the State Education Commission approved Shandong University to cooperate with Dr. Feng Dingya of Taiwan to establish "Confucius International Institute of Shandong University".
On October 23, 1999, the Ministry of Education held a forum on cooperation in running schools in other places. The meeting discussed the issue of cooperation in running schools in different places, and agreed that the central government's decision that colleges and universities can cooperate in running schools in different places has played a positive role in promoting the development of China's higher education. Ji Baocheng, director of the development and Planning Department of the Ministry of education and director of the university work office directly under the Ministry of education, said that the school running mode of establishing a branch school to develop higher education is one of the best modes of China's universities with less investment, high efficiency and rapid development.
On June 18, 2001, the Ministry of Education approved the students of Weihai Branch to issue the graduation certificate of Shandong University.
On July 8, 2003, South Korea college of Shandong University (now Dongbei Asian College) was established.
On November 1, 2004, the 20th anniversary celebration meeting of Weihai Branch of Shandong University opened in the school sports ground.
On June 28, 2006, Shandong University and Weihai municipal government signed a joint construction agreement during the 11th Five Year Plan period.
On June 9, 2007, the inauguration ceremony of Weihai Observatory and Weihai Observatory of Shandong University was held in Majia mountain.
On November 3, 2008, consul general Jin Shanxing and President Han Shenghao of the South Korean Consulate General in Qingdao jointly opened the "Shizong school" in South Korea.
On February 10, 2009, the international asteroid center officially designated 207931 as the permanent number of the asteroid temporarily numbered 2008 ym9 discovered by Weihai Observatory of Shandong University on December 24, 2008. This is the first asteroid discovered by the Chinese Mainland University telescope.
From March 23 to 24, 2009, Xu Xianming, President of Shandong University, Li Jianjun, deputy secretary of the Party committee, Wang Jianmin, assistant to the president and director of the personnel department, and heads of the Party committee (president) office, academic affairs office, Graduate School and other departments went to Weihai Branch to investigate. President Xu put forward the development framework of "greater Shandong University", which is "the combination of unification and division, complementary advantages, each with its own characteristics and integrated development".
On February 13, 2011, Shandong University and Weihai City jointly built Weihai Branch of Shandong University and the naming ceremony of "Weihai star" was held in Jinan.
On the afternoon of November 22, 2011, the Party committee of Shandong University held the 68th Standing Committee (enlarged) meeting. The meeting decided that Weihai campus should be renamed "Shandong University (Weihai)", and the campus should be called "Weihai Campus".
On February 10, 2012, President Han Shenghao led a delegation to visit the Zijinshan Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and signed the relevant cooperation agreement. The two sides plan to carry out all-round cooperation in the development and planning of astronomy and space science, subject research, personnel training and science popularization.
On March 5, 2012, the University held the cooperation and listing ceremony between the Korea University Invention Association and KYK Co., Ltd. and the university business incubator. Vice president Zhao Yupu, President of Korea University Invention Association Li zhoujiong, President of Korea KYK Co., Ltd. Jin Ronggui attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.
On March 8, 2012, the University held the signing and Establishment Ceremony of the legal research center of Weihai government of Shandong University. Vice President Chen Jinzhao attended the ceremony and presented the letter of appointment to the cooperative tutors of postgraduates.
On March 11, 2012, the inaugural meeting of Beijing Alumni Association of Shandong University (Weihai) was held in Beijing. President Han Shenghao, responsible persons of alumni office, Youth League Committee, business school and other relevant units, representatives of some alumni in Beijing and representatives of Beijing Alumni Association of Shandong University attended the meeting.
On April 7, 2012, the unveiling ceremony of the Weihai joint observation station of Shandong University of the space objects and debris observation and research center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was held at the University's observatory. Ji Peiwen, executive deputy director of the Department of mathematical physics of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Yan Jun, director of the National Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief scientist of the space debris expert group of the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense, and Zijinshan Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Yang Ji, executive deputy commander in chief of the space debris monitoring and early warning system of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wang Yi and other leaders attended the ceremony. President Han Shenghao attended the ceremony and made a speech.
On April 20, 2012, an expert group from the Ministry of education, composed of 11 people and Zhang Jianhua, director of the science and Technology Department of the Ministry of education, arrived at the university to conduct on-site investigation and demonstration on the establishment of the "sub center of planetary spectrum and space weather" of the joint Research Center for deep space exploration of the Ministry of education.
On May 26, 2012, the University held the inaugural meeting of Shandong University (Weihai) Alumni Association.
At the end of May 2012, Weihai Observatory of Shandong University (and Weihai Observatory) was awarded the first batch of "four-star" popular science education bases in Shandong Province.
On September 20, 2012, after the research of Shandong University, Weihai Branch of Shandong University was officially renamed as Shandong University (Weihai).
From September 23 to 30, 2012, President Han Shenghao led a delegation to visit the Australian National University, icrar of the University of Western Australia, Sydney Observatory, Australian National Supercomputer Center, Royal Melbourne Polytechnic University, Swinburne National University of science and technology and Deakin University, and held friendly visits with the Australian National University, Royal Melbourne Polytechnic University and Swinburne National University of science and technology The National University of science and technology of wiburn and Deakin University signed an inter school cooperation agreement.
On October 23, 2012, after the study of the Party committee of Shandong University, the Committee of Weihai Branch of Shandong University was renamed as the Committee of Shandong University (Weihai).
At the end of November 2012, Weihai Observatory of Shandong University (and Weihai Observatory) was recognized as "national popular science education base" by China Association of science and technology, and the demonstration period is 2012-2016.
