Bowangpo site

It is located 30 kilometers southwest of Fangcheng County, with Funiu Mountain in the north, Yinshan Mountain in the South and Baihe River in the West. It is the Mangang where Funiu Mountain extends. The terrain is dangerous. It is the thoroughfare of the ancient "Xianghan pass", and it is always a place for military strategists. He was the Marquis, the county, the shop, the post and the town. In the Western Han Dynasty, Zhang Qian, a diplomat and explorer, made two missions to the western regions successively. He made outstanding contributions and was granted the title of "Bowang Hou" by Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty in the sixth year of Yuanshuo (123 BC), which means "broad-minded looking". Hence the name of "Bo Wang". According to legend, this is the ancient battlefield of bowangpo, where Zhuge Liang was just born during the Three Kingdoms period.

"Cihai" contains: "the name of Bowang ancient county, set in the Western Han Dynasty. It was the Marquis of Zhang Qian. According to legend, it was very prosperous at that time, and it governed 45 Li Bowang village. The old city is 1300 meters long from east to west and 400 meters wide from north to south. Due to the erosion of wind and rain, the city wall has long disappeared, only the wall base. The underground cultural layer in the city is 1-7 meters thick, and a large number of Han bricks, tubular tiles, iron ware, etc. have been unearthed. The bridge fence is inlaid with 36 pieces of stone carvings imitating Han Dynasty paintings: Zhang Qian's life story. On the west side of the bridge, a stone tablet was erected.

Zhechi tree is 5.9 meters high and 2.2 meters thick. Its twigs circle and its wood is bare. It is said that it is the only surviving witness of burning Bowang slope. Other relics include Liu Bei's observation platform, the city tower built by XiahouDun when he stationed troops, meilinpu where Cao Cao looked at the plum blossom to quench his thirst, and Jingde bridge, a three hole arch bridge built by Yuchi Jingde, a general of the Tang Dynasty.

Cultural relics protection

In 1992, the State Administration of cultural relics invited experts and scholars to discuss Zhang Qian's experience in two missions to the western regions. It proposed that Bowang should be listed as a national cultural relic protection unit, and special funds should be allocated to repair an ancient bridge in the old city, which is simple and magnificent.
