Yiwu Salt Lake, also known as tolekule lake, is a typical inland evaporation lake, located 2km north of Yanchi township government in Yiwu county. The existing lake surface is less than 30km2, with an altitude of 1896m. Uygur people call it "turkule", which means a quiet lake.

The lake water is odorless and translucent. Because it contains 3.78 million tons of salt and Glauber's salt, the water has a bitter and alkaline taste, which is extremely salty alkaline water. The lake has neither an outlet nor an entrance. It is composed of underground springs. After passing Yanchi village, you can see a lake from a distance. The water and sky are connected. You can enter the lake along the knee deep grass. The grass grows and the warbler flies. The purple, yellow and blue horse lotus flowers bloom in the wind, and the fragrance is striking.

The magic

The main minerals in the lake are salt, mirabilite and black mud. The reason why magic color lake is pink is that there is a kind of Dunaliella salina in its water, which can survive in the difficult environment with high salt content, and the body contains cup-shaped pigment body. In the case of poor living conditions, it will produce heme, which leads to a large area of pink in the lake water. The difference of local temperature will lead to the change of heme in Dunaliella salina. The water of magic color lake under high temperature is lighter than that under low temperature, which leads to the reason why the water of magic color lake keeps changing color. In addition, under the condition of different light intensity, the night color of the lake will change.

In 2013, Geographic China inspected the lake and revealed the truth of its discoloration.
