Chongan Temple
Chongan Temple (also known as Xijin Park) is the first temple of Liangxi in Wuxi. It is a famous scenic spot of wuhui. For more than 1600 years, Chongan temple has been the political center, business center and cultural center of Wuxi since ancient times. The adjacent Dongxu palace has a history of more than 500 years. The side room of Sanqing palace is the former residence of a Bing, the author of the world famous song Er Quan Ying Yue. Built in 1905, gonghuayuan is the earliest Park in China, which is open to the public free of charge. It is known as the first park in China. It has 24 scenes, including Fangtang academy, chishang thatched cottage, Xiuyi Baishi, Caotang Huajiu, Songya yicui, Baishui Shiquan, Lanyi Tingqin, yingcongniao, etc. Because the temple is prosperous, the garden is praised as "little Shanghai" because of the flourishing streets and prosperous Wuxi. With its unique style and charm, the temple has become the four distinctive features of the south of the Yangtze River, which are the same as Shanghai Town God's Temple, Nanjing Confucius temple and Suzhou Xuan Miao. It is a national 4A scenic spot.
In February 2020, in order to express our gratitude to the medical staff, we will implement the free admission policy for medical workers and their spouses and children from the date of the resumption of the park to December 31, 2020.
Historical development
Chong an temple is the oldest temple in Wuxi. It is the same as Shanghai's Town God's Temple, Suzhou's Xuan Miao and Nanjing's Confucius temple. It used to be a pure Buddhist holy land. Later, it was famous for no temple. It developed into a prosperous commercial area and became the synonym of Wuxi City Center. According to legend, Chongan temple is the residence of Wang Xizhi, a calligrapher in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.
In 364, Emperor AI of Jin Dynasty changed it into a temple in the second year of Xingning, named Xingning temple
In 977, it was changed into Chong'an temple.
During the reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty, it was granted the title of Jinghui temple. After several times of destruction and construction, after the revolution of 1911, the statues were destroyed one after another, and the houses were used for other purposes.
In 1905, Wu Zhihui, Yu Fu and others founded the third class school in the West Hall. Huangting, in the first year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu in Qing Dynasty, Liao Lun, the magistrate of Wuxi City, built the imperial edict Pavilion in front of the Daxiong hall in order to compliment the emperor. The memorial tablet in the pavilion reads: "long live the emperor, long live, long live the emperor.". Local officials must pay homage to the emperor's pavilion on the first day of the lunar calendar, the second half of the lunar month or the emperor's wedding or funeral. After the revolution of 1911, it was demolished and changed into a corrugated open hall. In the morning, there is a vegetable market, and in the afternoon, there are juggling and Huangting snack stands. Huangting snacks gather dozens of snacks in Wuxi. There are also gongbeilou, xinwanxing, jin'afai and other noodle restaurants.
In 1909, because of Chongan temple, there was Chongan Temple Primary School. At the back door of the temple, that is, the back door of Chongan Temple (later named gongyuannong), Lu Dingyi, a revolutionist from Wuxi, once inscribed the school plate for his alma mater. In 1971, the school headquarters was transferred to Chongwu primary school (later known as Chongan primary school).
In 1927, Wuxi Federation of trade unions, led by Qin Qi, was located in the main hall. During the Anti Japanese War, it was burned by the Japanese army. Dabei building, with five buildings, was built in the Wanli period of Ming Dynasty. The upper floor is the Sutra Pavilion. In front of the pavilion is Wang Youjun's (Wang Xizhi's) diyanchi. Later it was changed into Chongan Temple Primary School.
In 1963, it was changed into a bungalow because of the dangerous house, and in 1969, it was filled with no polyester inkstone pool. In 1983, it was changed into an activity room for veteran cadres.
In 1975, the site of Huangting was transformed into a 4-story 5000 square meter Renmin Road vegetable farm, which is now a supermarket. In addition, there are Nanyuan, Beiyuan, wansongyuan, zhongyinyuan, etc., which have long been demolished or rebuilt.
In 1984, Chongan Temple Primary School moved to a new school building next to the library. Chongan primary school also moved to the former site of daluoxiang primary school in 1982. The former site of simenmen was rebuilt by the Municipal Bureau of veteran cadres, and then set up the activity room for veteran cadres in Wuxi. In the 1990s, the school buildings of Chongan Temple Primary School were demolished due to the reconstruction of Chongan temple, and the school was merged into Chongan primary school in DALOU lane.
In 2003, the first phase of Chongan temple reconstruction project was implemented. Relying on the park in the city and the original cultural relics such as ancient wells, former residences and ancient halls, it will be built into a boutique clothing area, cultural entertainment area and commercial service area, and become a characteristic commercial pedestrian block integrating characteristic commerce, catering, culture, recreation and other functions. The total land area of Chongan temple reconstruction project is 28.6 hectares. After reconstruction, it will be built into the first-class prosperous central business district in southern Jiangsu and the first-class in China.
Main buildings
To the east of Chong'an temple, it used to be the largest Taoist temple in Wuxi. The main buildings are: Sanqing hall, which was demolished in 1915 and rebuilt into the city library. The library building has a citizen clock, which is called the clock tower. In 2000, the city library moved to the south of Taihu square. After the reconstruction of Sanqing hall, the Taoist priest built another small Sanqing hall, including leizun hall and Huoshen hall. The folk musician Hua Yanjun (blind a Bing) has lived here for nearly 40 years, which is now No. 30 library road. Now it is a Bing's former residence. Yuhuang hall, before liberation, was the site of Wuxi County Council, after liberation, was the city's youth home. Now there is a garden shopping mall. The three official hall has been demolished.
There are inscriptions on the gate, such as "Liangxi shoucha" and "wuhui scenic spot", and two generals of hem and HA on both sides. After liberation, it was demolished and the first non-staple food store was built on the original site. The palace of King Kong, which has four big King Kong sculptures, was changed into a shop after the revolution of 1911 and is now a supermarket. Daxiong hall is the main building group of Chongan temple, with long corridors on the left and right, bell tower in the East Hall and Guanyin Pavilion in the West Hall.

Historical celebrities
Hua Yanjun
Hua Yanjun (1893-1950), whose nickname is a Bing, has a close relationship with Chongan temple. This is his birthplace, his cradle of becoming an outstanding folk musician through all kinds of frustrations and tribulations, his painful trauma left behind, his inspiration for music creation, his struggle against evil forces and his cry for justice. Chongan temple is the stage of a Bing's life art.
Rong Desheng
On the eve of the liberation of Wuxi in 1949, millions of people's Liberation Army soldiers were ready to cross the Yangtze River. In order to save the military defeat, the precarious Nanjing government even more unscrupulously squeezed the people, implemented the economic policy of "fishing with all its might", and indiscriminately issued banknotes, resulting in vicious inflation, which made the people miserable. They also spread rumors from time to time, causing people in the industrial and commercial circles to have doubts and fears about the Communist Party. Wuxi, as an important industrial and commercial town in the south of the Yangtze River, closed its factories for a while, and the market was depressed. Some people in the industrial and commercial circles are also considering moving factories to Hong Kong, Taiwan and other regions to seek another way out. On the other hand, they are also secretly waiting for the attitude of Rong's enterprise as the "head of the herd". At that time, China's national industry and commerce was divided into three parts of the world, and the Rong family was one of them. Not to mention Shanghai, there are some big enterprises in Wuxi, such as Maoxin No.1 Factory, Maoxin No.2 factory, Shenxin No.3 Factory, Tianyuan ramie wool cotton textile factory, Kaiyuan Machinery Factory, etc., which account for half of Wuxi's economy. The decision of Rong Desheng undoubtedly affects the whole Wuxi Industrial Circle and even the people in Shanghai's industrial and commercial circles.
Festival celebration
In the old days, the birthday of Guanyin on June 19 of the lunar calendar and the birthday of the Jade Emperor on the ninth day of the first month of the lunar calendar was a grand ceremony of offering sacrifices and worshiping, and it developed into a temple fair. From the first day of the new year to the first half of the first month, people from four townships and eight towns in Wuxi come to visit Chongan temple, which is as lively as the temple fair.
